I mean, it makes perfect, logical sense in every way. But it still hits you in the feels a bit, ya know?

Screw that.
That realignment thread was all bad news. I'm glad it's dead.
This is the one where we break the news that we're joining the B1G.

If we ever join the B1G, I'll strip naked and run across the field at Nippert during a nationally televised game. Honestly, wouldn't even be mad about getting arrested if it happens.

Don't they actually do that at Purdue?

Not on the field. That was in the courtyard of Cary Quad. Not sure if they still do that.

I'll take a wild guess that academics matter to this man if he was A.D. @ Northwestern. Of the teams remaining and most often discussed for expansion, Cincinnati may be top of class academically, certainly above the ACC's last addition in Louisville. One would hope that if he had previously been under consideration for the B10 job, he knows and values Ohio, both in terms of TV markets and recruiting.
Interesting news, thanks for sharing.

RE: All Things Realignment 2.0
If you go football-only adds of Boise and maybe BYU, I think that's a conference that starts to get considerably more respect...but then you're running into a similar inequity issue that caused the Big East to die. I genuinely agree that getting Boise and maybe another decent team (preferably BYU who would have an incentive after being shown where they stand this year) would get us over the hump so to speak...especially if we managed to drop the dreck along with it. If you had a choice between Boise all-sports and Tulane all-sports, I know which one I'd choose lol.
Trading Boise football for UConn basketball is probably a wash as far as TV money is considered (and only TV money...).

Personally, I wouldn’t add Boise or BYU. Too much travel and the benefit those guys get playing at that altitude would guarantee everyone from this conference that travels there will walk away with an L. Way too high maintenance.

I go big with BYU, Boise State, and Gonzaga. Maybe SDSU or Air Force. I always wanted to big and improve both major sports.

If adding them both got us a seat at the table, would you change your tune?
I mean, it's funny to think about because it obviously won't happen, but it wouldn't really affect us that much. If you at both we'd only be playing at one of their stadiums one time every 4 years if we stayed at 8 conference games with a 14 team conference (6 in division and two out of division with one each home and away...rotation would be same as normal with a rolling rotation probably spread out to avoid it having teams traveling to both each year.

No to SDSU. To me, Colorado State would be better than either, even with the name recognition of Air Force...and Gonzaga has NOOOOOO incentive to leave their current conference.
I think the best we could do is BYU all sports plus Boise football-only and try to kick a team out (TULANE). You instantly raise your profile considerably in football, remove your worst product across the board, and MAYBE get enough name recognition to get us up to what the old Big East was. At that point you can sell them on the fact that only twice in the last 10 years has a team outside of the AAC (with Boise included) made a NY6/BCS bowl, so why even have the "G5" be the auto qualifier anymore, make it the AAC and say any non-P6 conference champion who goes undefeated can play in a NY6 (which will only happen once or twice every 10 years and wouldn't affect any money either way).

i think if we are going to expand it should be with football in mind. i can see East and West divisions for football and basketball by adding Boise, Air force, and Nevada (who are ranked every now and again).
West: Tulsa, SMU, Houston, Boise, Air force, Tulane, Nevada
East: Cincy, Temple, ECU, USF, UCF, Memphis, Navy
six division games, four cross divisions, two OOC. You can also do three cross divisions and three OOC as well.
if i'm being honest, i would prefer to drop ECU and go with just Boise and Airforce, shifting either Tulane or one of the TX teams to the East division.

I agree with the thought process, but I don't think the other two are worth anything to any media deal. If you go past 12, you NEED to get BYU, probably for all sports, otherwise it isn't worth it at all IMO...then you could add whoever you want between AF, CSU, SDSU, Nevada, UNLV, etc. and be all set. You'd kill your primary competition, add two "names" and basically position yourself as the only conference worth a damn outside the power structure. To me, that's a better football conference than the Big East was by the end of it all...when you consider that all but two of the "auto-bids" from outside of current P5 members since 2007 would be in this conference, you have all the ammo you need to negotiate for an auto bid and more compensation.
If you have the drop scenario, it would be a coin flip between Tulane and ECU for me...we recruit the SE more than the Mississippi Delta, so I'd probably stick with ECU, especially due to divisional alignment issues it would cause otherwise.

From BYU's perspective, why would they join the American? The cfb mentioned that if they were able to play their original schedule and go undefeated, they would have garnered playoff consideration. They might think they have the winning formula, why would the give that up?
