Imagine that conference...

UTEP
Louisiana Tech
Middle Tennessee State
Western Kentucky
Florida International
New Mexico State
UConn
Liberty

An 8 team conference that runs from New Mexico to Connecticut and Florida...

Now wait a minute! I thought UGone was concerned about travel costs? I thought they were excited to play a P5 schedule as an independent? LMFAO!!!

If UConn does this, it would only be for football. All other sports would stay in the Big East, or every fan's, not to mention Geno Auriemma's, head would explode.

RE: All Things Realignment 2.0
Just for kicks, here's a bit from ESPN with a nice UC cameo:

Quote:A monkey belonging to a Texas assistant coach's girlfriend allegedly attacked a Halloween trick-or-treater, and now that's not even the most ridiculous thing to come out of this season for the Longhorns.

Steve Sarkisian promised an all-gas, no-brakes philosophy this season, and in fairness to him, he did not ever suggest he wasn't talking about driving the Longhorns into the side of a 7-11.

In the aftermath of the stunning Kansas victory, we received this transcript of a call to Big 12 headquarters leaked by a source we'll identify only as "B. Bowlsby." Ah, that's too obvious. Let's say, "Bob B."

Caller 1: Thank you for calling Big 12 customer service. How may I direct your call?

Caller 2: Um, returns, I guess.

Caller 1: Hold please.

"Dust in the Wind" by Kansas plays.

Caller 3: Big 12 returns and exchanges. May I ask who's calling?

Caller 2: Yes, this is Greg Sankey.

Caller 3: How can we help you, Mr. Sankey?

Caller 2: I have two football teams I'd like to return.

Caller 3: I see. Was there a problem with your purchase?

Caller 2: Yes. I think they may be defective.

Caller 3: OK, sir. Do you have a receipt?

Caller 2: Well, no, but Texas A&M did leak the news of our purchase to its local newspaper. Will that suffice?

Caller 3: I'm sorry, sir. We require a receipt to process any returns.

Caller 2: I see. Well, what about store credit? We could be interested in possibly picking up a Cincinnati in a year or two.

Caller 3: Again, I'm sorry. Cincinnati is on back order currently.

Caller 2: Ah, OK. Well this is certainly disappointing.

Caller 3: Is there anything more I can do for you, sir?

Caller 2: One last question. I notice you're adding UCF. I'm wondering if you might be interested in having a local rival for them? We've got some Florida baggage we're looking to unload at a very affordable price.

Caller 2: Hello?

Caller 2: We can throw in the Texas monkey, too. Hello?

*end of transcript*

RE: All Things Realignment 2.0
Funny bit from ESPN.

Texas has had the top revenue athletic department for years and their fans must be at wit's end as to why the Longhorns can't succeed in football or basketball. Prominent rising coaches have gone there, securing generational wealth for their families, only to fail to meet expectations on field or court.

I can only imagine the frustration of some in their fan base looking at a Cincinnati, with maybe 10-15% of Texas's athletic revenue over the past decade, winning so much in football and basketball, wondering why they can't throw enough money at their problem to fix it.

RE: All Things Realignment 2.0
Texas: meddling big money boosters combined with a culture of mind-numbing arrogance and entitlement that truly believes it should all be automatic because "WE'RE TEXAS!"

Remember, this isn't anything new. Other than that half decade with Young and McCoy, this has pretty much been Texas since they fired Darryl Royal in the mid 70s: a coaching graveyard and consistent mediocrity with the occasional "TEXAS IS BACK" season thrown in.

Regarding the meddling boosters, somebody told me something interesting about OSU, and that is that they made the conscious decision back in the Woody Hayes days to base their athletic fundraising on thousands of moderate donations rather than seek out the whales to write seven figure checks precisely to avoid the meddling factor, and that culture still guides their AD philosophy.

Tom Herman was 32-18, 7-3 the last year, and they threw him out. Constantly bringing in new coaches is not a good strategy.

They would've fired Fickell after he went 4-8 his first season. And to think they are likely going to be in a pod with Oklahoma, A&M and Arkansas. Pencil in 2 losses for sure with Arkansas being a likely one and then every third year they get Bama, Auburn or Georgia Florida. My prediction is that 5 years from now we start seeing articles with the fans wanting to go back to the Big 12.

I am reminded of Thomas Wolfe who wrote "You Can't Go Home Again".

TX does less with more than any school in the country.

With MTSU saying they were staying in CUSA, meaning so was WKU, rather than going to apply to The MAC I think this thread is history for a few years. Only exception might be CUSA trying to add a team or two.

Yeah, it would appear the only changes are likely to be FCS teams jumping up to the CUSA, as I dont believe anything will come from the P5 now until 2025. Wouldnt be surprised to see EKU jump up to FBS here shortly in the CUSA too.

Good for them - that seems like a nice fit. Hopefully they can continue building upon the foundation that Moser built there. Chicago should have a quality college program to support and DePaul has certainly had its share of chances.

It's amazing. I'm glad they're leaving the B12. They're going to find tough sledding in the SEC. Wish OU was staying though.

Totally agree, I love the future Big 12 but I would love to keep OU, couldn't care less about Texas.

RE: All Things Realignment 2.0
Just a little bit of sunshine in all this gloom and doom talk. Regardless of who the coach is, just a reminder that the future still looks bright!

The Big 12 is dead

When Oklahoma and Texas unexpectedly announced in July they were leaving the Big 12 for the SEC no later than the 2025 season, we all assumed that it might be a death knell for their former league. Without its two flagship programs, how could the Big 12 remain as relevant as the Big Ten and SEC?

Well, the Big 12 might not have added programs with brand names as powerful as the Longhorns and Sooners, but its future position looks pretty good right now. Oklahoma State, a current Big 12 team, and Cincinnati, a future one, might both make the playoff. Baylor has an outside chance too, and it seems the Bears might keep second-year coach Dave Aranda, who received some interest from LSU and USC. TCU just plucked Sonny Dykes, one of the sport's best offensive minds, away from SMU. Houston, another future Big 12 team, is in the CFP selection committee's top 25.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby took a lot of heat when OU and Texas pulled one over on his league, but he has to be smiling now. The Longhorns, who haven't won a conference title since 2009, went 5-7 under first-year coach Steve Sarkisian. The Sooners lost Riley, most of their nationally ranked recruiting class and a few of their key assistants. Karma.

Not even a mention of #12 BYU joining the Big 12?

New Big 12 schools are #4, #5, #9, #12, and #21 in the CFP rankings. 10 of the 12 teams are bowl-eligible. Even lowly Kansas beat an FBS team this year.
