The writing was pretty clearly on the wall going into the off-season that the Falcons would do something at QB. I'm not that high on Cousins, but obviously it's his job now.

I hope and suspect that Des will stay positive and keep working. Much of the NFL is not for long so there's still a chance that he'll get a shot to earn a job. It's not apples to apples, but Baker Mayfield has gone from being released by the Panthers to a new 3/$100M deal a little more than a year later.

Well I hope Atlanta is happy dumping all that money into a '98 Ford Taurus.

Kirk Cousins is the NFL version of Michigan St. He goes 18-13 and gets a 5 seed.

It could end up being one. Dez would be a relatively inexpensive backup for Atlanta and could learn from a veteran like Kirk Cousins. Then in 2 years or so when Cousins is winding down, a more experienced, savvier Dez gets another shot. Just depends on how Dez chooses to approach this

Des was better than people realize in his second starting stint last season, but the Atlanta staff kept putting him in objectively terrible situations. I really hope he gets another shot, but unless you're an elite NFL qb or prospect, situation often determines your success in the NFL and that second shot often doesn't come.

If I were Dez, I'd just sit back and collect that paycheck.

Is there any better job in the world than backup NFL QB??? You're getting paid handsomely to have the best seat in the house and not get your a$$ pounded into the dirt.

And as of last season, a competent backup QB is becoming a very valuable asset.

I mean probably for the most of people their lifelong dream isn’t what they’re doing. 32 kids get pretty ******* close.

What were the terrible situations they put him in?

PFF ranked his Offensive Line as the 4th best in the NFL. Bijan is one of the best young RBs in the league, Pitts is the best young TE in the league, and he had a competent WR corps.

Did you read the linked tweet?

Quote:What a tough benching for Desmond Ridder

Since returning from BYE, Ridder/ATL has pass DVOAs of:

+35%
+16%
+17%
+39%

His numbers look a lot worse than he's been because the run game has been terrible but they can't stop/won't stop running on early downs

Glad he's going somewhere where he's presumably wanted:

Agreed.

I always felt he was an excellent college QB with an amazing supporting cast here. I'm glad he was drafted, got a big paycheck and had a chance as an NFL starter.

Here's hoping he can stay in the league and enjoy some success in the coming years. I do wonder if coaching is in his future and if we might see him on the Bearcat sideline in a few years.

Kyler Murray is under contract until 2028 with a value of $231M. Ridder will be a backup, and his contract will lapse prior to Murray's if he isn't released.

With they way injuries happen to quarterbacks, Rid will get his reps to prove he can be a serviceable backup/starter. Probably good for him to get a change of scenery.

Ridder seems a good enough NFL quarterback to me except he tends to fumble the ball far too often. If he can stop that, he can play in the league for a long time.

He had a lot of red zone fails.

He did, but as someone mentioned earlier, it can be argued that was as much the offensive coordinator's fault as Ridder's.
