RE: UT @ UM Game Thread
I never had too much respect for Coach K but after his postMichigan press conference I have even less respect. What a worm! Not once did he take the blame for the score. No time outs in the first half to compensate for the lopsided score, no adjustments to the height difference. He just kept saying “we” not “he” needed to play better. I don’t think Coaches are supposed to call out players by name. He noted that he thought Zach Freemantle of Xavier was a better player than Michigan’S DavisI watched the entire Xavier game a Fremantle didn’t even play a good part of the first half because of fouls and a technical. We need to get rid of the guy.....worm. Also needs to fix his hair.

Why would he need to play better?

I liked his presser. Very blunt and honest, and accurately analytical. We didn't compete well largely because we didn't run our stuff patiently and play unselfish basketball and just make the easy play. Michigan made it harder but when you don't play right shots don't usually fall and then defense isn't setup or as motivated. Is what it is. I don't see how it changes much with more timeouts. You already have TV timeouts every 4 minutes. You spend your practices all year learning to run your offense a certain way and then get frazzled in the moment and get away from it. The coach can remind you to play the right way at the four tv timeouts in the first half or do it 6 times by calling 2 more. Same message.

As far as adjustments to the height difference. What do you do? Have your guys grow as the shot clock winds down? If your best post defender can't stop their guy, who do you replace him with? If your guards aren't sinking and harassing the post, or not recovering quickly after as they are coached to do, you're gonna have problems. Freemantle was in foul trouble and had a lousy game because we played him well and took him out of his game. Davis killed us because we let him play to his strengths and didn't force him to do anything that made him uncomfortable.

Also really liked coach's comments on Juwan Howard, thoughtful and complementary without being patronizing. He may have seemed like a questionable coach for that job having never been a HC and maybe getting in more on history and name recognition, but he's proven to be a really good coach.

This team has pieces. They will need to figure out how to maximize them and find an identity. It will be tougher not having your defensive post presence with AJ out, but there is a way.
