Doesn't surprise me your defending a pinhead. Anyway. Still looking forward to all the changes to the WAC. Its nice to see legit WAC expansion news and not seeing never ending articles by the pundits how GCU is gonna be a national powerhouse because of their fan support and their super star coach who is now suing GCU. How's that going BTW gleadley? Curiously the Phoenix media is very quiet about any negative pub for that story.

The crazy thing is that by all accounts, you're a nice, normal guy in person. A productive and respected member of the LC community. What changes when you get behind a keyboard, man?

The constant digs, insults, and "smack talk" might make sense if we were all college kids again, but we're not. Hell, most of us have become the old guys that the college kids make fun of for hanging on to "the glory days". Dude, I got called "old balls" by some kid at an alumni tailgate and I was just barely 30. I can't imagine what I'd be called now, over a decade later.

All that is to say it's okay to drop the schtick. I'm more than happy to have honest, respectful conversations about our teams and fandom. If you're genuinely curious about the lack of coverage on GCU and Majerle, it's probably because because the sports media doesn't really care about GCU.

You got it bro. Thanks for putting me in my place. Seriously. No more GCU smack talk. Now that Majerle is gone its kinda lost its fun.

04-cheers

Oh, you bobbie cats and your TV deal. We get it, you got a TV deal. Happy for ya bud. Really am. Guaran-dang-tee ya though, the WAC basketball tourney in Vegas will be a made-for-TV event. And that Sunbelt tourney...well, you do have a TV deal.
Cmon IT, he wasn't trying to be a dick about it. This is an an honest question,

Just like professional sports some leagues are ESPN properties, others are FoxSports brands and other league just do their own thing.

The Southland tv deal previously SUCKED. They sold rights to ESPN and they are carried on the EsPn+ app and built a federation of over the air digital secondary channels (ie bunny ear 5.3).

The Big Sky has sports on free apps like Pluto TV.

The Sun Belt has the championship game and a few randos during on TV each year but most is handled through the app. During Covid, the Belt has taken advantage of teams not playing and some other leagues being affiliated with the fox sports properties to highlight their programs.

Because MWC and CUSA are not ESPN properties, their games aren't shown as much on that platform. I find their games on Fox Sports, NFL network, OTA, CBS Sports.... honestly it's a crapshoot.

Money aside, from a fan perspective the Southland tv rights deal with ESPN has been great. We recently moved from Abilene to Virginia. For a $12.95 a month I get a package that includes Disney, Hulu, and ESPN+. The ESPN ap allows me to watch virtually every ACU home game from the comfort of my living room. Before the deal, ACU games were only available via an unreliable subscriber service.

So how much did they pay you for that endorsement?

I especially enjoyed watching ACU punish Tarleton.

Yes with D1 experience. We've just started playing D1 and aren't what we once were. Yeah, brag about the win it's your right but I wouldn't.

Though to be fair I did gloat and cheer louder than normal before y'all left for D1. I was also surrounded by ACU fans and sitting down from the team y'all were honoring. Good times...

You have a good young team and a coach who knows what he’s doing. The TAMU game got everone’s attention. Tarleton will only get better,

We, too, have a good coach and a veteran team that’s won 20 plus games each of the past two years with one trip to the NCAA’s. Next year will be a challenge for us since we lose several key seniors. I’m going to enjoy this season while I can.

Looking at the map only a NAU for Seattle trade seems like it would benefit both schools and conferences. Take the two California FCS schools and you have . Two nine team FCS conferences for round robin play.

I would think NAU would have better attendance for GCU, Cal Baptist , SUU, and Dixie St than Northwest schools. Seattle could bus to half of the BSC. And those schools have alumni in Seattle.

Quote:Well, any speculation about the longtime Big Sky school fully joining the WAC was quickly quashed by Northern Arizona Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Marlow Friday.

When asked via email if there was a possibility of joining the WAC in more sports than just swimming and diving -- a sport that the Lumberjacks have dominated, winning seven straight conference titles -- Marlow was brief.

"This is not a consideration for NAU," he replied.

There is little to no reason to doubt Marlow, as a move of that caliber while the school is transitioning toward an entirely new university president makes a decision to leave the Big Sky hard to justify.

"Regret" is a little much, don't you think? Forgive me for being skeptical after years of realignment conspiracy theorists with no actual rooting interest in the conference dropping in to wildly speculate about nonsense additions that have proven over time to have no base in reality or the pending doom and/or death of the WAC and its member institutions. Just gets a little old after a while, ya know.

I was skeptical at first, too. At first glance the WAC didn’t look like much of an upgrade over the Southland. I didn’t understand just how much the Texas schools were frustrated with the LA schools and how much they wanted to bail.

This is much more than a bunch of guys on a message board imagining what they would like to see happen. Negotiations between the various schools and the WAC have been ongoing for a couple of months. Details have been hammered out. Invitations are on the table. Board meetings are scheduled to vote on whether to accept. All indications are this is Happening and happening sooner rather than later.

GCU played a great game today against Arizona Sate by the way, heartbreaking loss.

The WAC is an up and coming basketball conference. Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, Lamar, and Southern Utah will only add to that strength. Grand Canyon pushed Arizona State to the buzzer. Cal Baptist took USC to overtime. Tarleton State gave Texas A&M fits and Dixie State has already beaten two D1 teams in their inaugural WAC season. Its only a matter of time until the WAC upsets some of those P5 schools.

GCU has 1 more shot if Covid doesn't ruin their schedule. They play Colorado in Vegas.

A win over Colorado would be good. But first GCU needs to get by a very dangerous San Francisco team. The Dons beat Virginia and blow out Nevada by 25 points in Reno. They like to shoot a high number of threes per game.

RE: Speculating What Scheduling in a New WAC Would Look Like
I think GCU can beat SF. I think the Dons are still working out some kinks. They have a long way to go before they can consistently beat top teams. They are capable for sure, but I think GCU is playing well and hungrier.

Cal only has 2 D1 wins. San Fran and an 11 point win over Nicholls State. They aren’t an impressive team. Unless SF really brings it, they’ll get throated by GCU.

USF is no joke. They have been in the top third of the WCC for years (Gonzaga, SMA, BYU). Should be a good game and a chance for another quality GCU/WAC win.

It's really what USF will show up the team that lost to UMass-Lowell by 11 or the team that beat #4 UVA?

Forgive me for being skeptical after years of realignment conspiracy theorists with no actual rooting interest in the conference dropping in to wildly speculate about nonsense additions that have proven over time to have no base in reality or the pending doom and/or death of the WAC and its member institutions. Just gets a little old after a while, ya know.

Just curious if gleadley has any thoughts about anything now that SFA Board of Regents authorized negotiations with the WAC...

Literally the only thing stopping the Texas schools from going to the WAC is if anyone reneges. Evidently Sam Houston State is a bit of a threat for that and can be the lynchpin for this all to fall apart but even the folks in Huntsville won’t want to be left in the dust if ACU, Lamar and SFA make a go of another situation down the road.
