There's a small chance but still a chance he could get a call this offseason with what he has already done. If he somehow wins a game in the tournament, that chance goes through the roof. If he doesn't get the call this year, he's gone after next season in my opinion.

Usually takes more than two good years to get snagged. The carousel isn't as crazy in BB as FB. Just an example: Shaka Smart had like 6 years at VCU. Year 1 - CBI Champ - Year 2 - Final Four - Year 3-6 all Tourney teams and each almost won 30 games a season. Buzz Peterson is an example of why you don't school hop and money chase.

Chris Beard lasted one year at Little Rock. I've always wondered if he didn't get the upset over Purdue, in the NCAA tournament, whether the big boys would have come calling after one year. Maybe a good AD would have simply realized he was a great coach, but it would have been just a little harder to make that move without the NCAA win.

I'm being such a crabby old fart over our winning the tournament I donated an additional $176 to the Basketball Program in honor of the 176 minutes played by the starting 5 in last night's game. What have you done to help enhance and advance the program?

I think he was commenting on the content of this thread. After the UNCC game there were some sticks in mud on the forum.

You can say I was being a "stick in the mud" for not diving into the Kerns is awesome pool right all you like. It's simply that I prefer seeing a body of work before jumping on a bandwagon. My skepticism over beating what I perceived as a mediocre UNCC team was met with ridicule. That bunch finished the year 9-16 so it turned out not being the statement win many claimed it to be. The starting 5 showed tremendous determination in the tournament. It was an incredible accomplishment. You can't dismiss we were 1-4 (the win in OT) going into Pensacola and not looking very promising. Deano waiting until AFTER the tournament to make his SA comment shows what he's made of. There isn't a App fan alive who seriously thought we could win more than 1-2 games, much less the whole tournament. Kerns inherited some solid players and has shown he can coach them. I hope he and his staff can recruit as well.

What a load of horseshit. Beating an in-state rival is always a statement game. You just want to feel superior to young fans. That's your MO and has been for a decade. Yes you've help the department grow. But you might want to not crap on other fans' enthusiasm. In this case it made you look like a jerk, publicly.

Good time for this. Kerns has been fantastic for the program.

Don't think I'd go that far. Let's see how the next few years play out before making that bold of a statement. If not for 3 long last second bombs by Justin Forest he has a year one losing record.

As far as Missy Harrill donating the 1.3 mil I guess she's making some amends over Mark screwing up our program back when his big checkbook persuaded Cobb to hire Jason Capel. We've yet to recover.

No one knows what the future brings but I see the beginning of a winning, never give up culture and that's been sorely lacking in App State BB in recent years. Kearns gets credit for that in my book and while the jury may be out on him for some fans, it's or misfortune that it's probably not out in college basketball coaching circles.

As for Mark screwing up our program; that's on Cobb, he pulled the lever on that stupid deal. Never look a gift horse in the mouth. Take the money and say thank you!

ESPN and CBS are both projecting App to play in the First Four. ESPN predicts the game against Saint Peters from the MAAC while CBS predicts a game against Coppin State from the MEAC.

This might be advantageous for the Sun Belt. I've seen some on twitter comment that if Appalachian can get a win in the play-in game it still counts as an extra NCAA credit which would give the conference like an extra $2 million over 6 years.

Tisk, tisk, tisk... Such a foul mouth! What has become of our young people today? Would you also consider beating a 9 win Western, Elon, UNCA, UNCG, UNCW, Gardner Webb or even ECU team a statement wins? 03-no I need to "feel" superior to young fans? 03-lmfao Hardly. I do take exception to some some younger fans who think they know it all and won't give an minutes consideration to what older folks have to say or appreciate what they've done for the program. My MO for ten years? Guess I need to check back to see what happened in 2010 that made me such a jerk. I'd give you $100 to get anyone that actually knows me (that means has met and spent time with me) that will go agree with that. Crapping on other fans enthusiasm? 03-melodramatic Good Grief.... Some choose to live in the feel good world, but I'll stick to reality. I suppose if you just can't deal with my opinions just don't comment on my posts. Simple as that. Better yet put me on ignore. It'll save you and me a lot of aggravation. BTW, you never answered my question on the other thread about which radio station you worked for when you got your exclusive interview with my buddy Ken Peacock.

The Sun Belt will need an extra NCAA credit. Little Rock's from 2016 will expire and we'll be down to just 1 credit after the 2021-2022 season.

I'll agree Kerns has done a really good job of coaching this group and is earning a reputation for turning around programs. The program is trending in the right direirection, but I still want to see how his recruiting plays out. As far as wrecking the program goes, yes the ultimate decision to hire Capel was Cobb's. There is no debating that. However, it is a well known fact Harrell and a few other influential business people in town who had dumped a significant amount of cash on the KBS upgrades and who just happened to be big unc-ch fans, called in their favors and held Cobb's feet to the fire to hire him. It is also well known that Capel was living in one of Mark's Echota condos at no charge, regularly dined with the Harrell's and serving as their son's personal basketball coach. No conflict of interest at all. Not to mention Missy is from Chapel Hill. I truly hate what has happened to Mark. Nobody or their family should have to endure anything like that. It is truly a sad situation. But that still doesn't dismiss the fact he was a MAJOR influence behind the decision that set our basketball program back 10 years. That also can not be debated.
