RE: Ball State @ NIU mbb
NIU's problem is they don't have much of an inside game and they can't make 3's. Team has made only 17 of 61 3pt shots (just under 28%). Hankerson has made 10 of those 61 so the rest of the team is 7 for 36. In last nights game two NIU players (Beane and Hankerson) had over 50% of the scoring. Don't know if it was bad defense in overtime or BSU being hot, but they were 4 for 4 from the field including 2 for 2 from 3pt range. Defense looked better last night but the offense is offensive.
GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does not take a TO. No play (Maybe high pick and roll or pop..) No chance for an offense rebound with no time left after the shot. Why take a three when two wins the game?
Every high school coach has a play they practice with 10 seconds left on the clock. NIU just wings it. Is there any basketball smarts on this team?
I may not be right about this, but, I don’t think we had any timeouts left.
The time out is not the issue. We took our last time out with 34 seconds left after taking a 1 point lead. BS tied the game with a free throw (Adong fouled out of the game) with 15 seconds left. The issue is Monty drawing up a play where Adong fouls out of the game and Hankerson using up the final 15 seconds to take a low percentage 3 pt shot when 1 point wins the game. Gino would have taken it to the basket, 33% makes the shoot or 33% he's fouled - game over. Less than 20% for Hank making a long shot he didn't have.
I'd like to think Cochran would have been the difference but he probably would have joined the other 3 huskies that fouled out of the game.
He specifically questioned our not taking a timeout. We didn’t have one to take. That was my only point.
We didn't NEED to take a TO at 15 seconds because we took one at 34 seconds which CLEARLY covered the last 15 seconds!
He made VERY valid points about Monty's end of game play calling. That you prefer to ignore those points to talk about irrelevancy! Whatever.
I have watched so many plays following a Monty TO end in bonehead play that I even call it out now. 'Really! We spent 3 minutes sitting on our hands for that?'

RE: Ball State @ NIU mbb
Sorry to say, but Iowa is going to rip the Huskies a new one. Going into a game with Iowa State, before the NIU game, they are 4-0 including a 13-pt. win over then-#16 North Carolina. In that same AP poll, the Hawkeyes were ranked #3. But get what you can ... good growth experience for the team.
Pin hopes on Dec. 18 and Chicago State, the returns of Scott and Cochran, the rest of the team staying healthy, and that MM doesn't have to do anything with under 1 minute left in the game. Uhhh ... make that 3 minutes.

So who appointed you to be in charge of determining relevancy. Geez, could you be more full of yourself. Again, my point was to correct the fact regarding the timeout.....not to set off your personal relevancy meter.
I agree his points were all valid, and I never suggested that they weren’t.

About freaking time!....How does he think we feel after all these years of his ineptness.
He’s blown games like this with FULL rosters at his disposal many a time.

They also said during the game last night that BSU was without 2 key players, so that excuse by MM doesn’t wash very well.......

I am the eternal optimist as it relates to NIU athletics- that said, I cannot see how we keep Monty on as coach beyond his contract. Some success with Geno, but our program is dead beyond dead & needs some new energy in a bad way. No real chance that Monty can get us in the right spot. With rare exception, our games are ticking bombs of how we can do just enough to lose.
Thanks for the effort, but I can't take it anymore & as I said before I believe I am in the top 2% in optimism and support of NIU. If I am out we are in really bad shape as a program. I know that this site has the die-hards on it & last night's game thread was basically non-existent. We are all mentally checking out & not sure how you can blame us. It pains me to say.

It's all true, and most of us have been saying this for quite a while. And, yes, we are not alone. Just look at the dwindling crowds in the Convo (before this year). In the games I have attended, fans in the section where I sit shake their heads and say the same things. In addition, I have noticed that some of the regulars have stopped attending. Why attend something that game after game makes you mad, frustrated, and wondering. It's like we expect a loss walking into the Convo. And yet, STF is right there with a contract extension. Nothing will change until we have a new coach, and that may not change until we have a new AD. When you have an AD who rewards mediocrity, fans have two choices: put up with it or stop going to the games. It's all so sad.

Monty started off strong. Landing some interesting recruits to a program that Ricardo single handedly destroyed.
Remember Marshawn Wilson? Marin Maric? Abdel Nader? All interesting dudes, all transfered out. 2015 was an amazing year, as we hit 21-13, even qualifying for whatever the Vegas 16 is. But now instead of awful under Ricardo we are mediocre under Montgomery. Time now to rip the band aid off and undergo surgery. We need someone to take us to the next step.
There is no reason why we shouldn't be a winning organization in the talent heavy Chicago market. Our facilities are pretty damn nice...wth

RE: Ball State @ NIU mbb
Hopefully, this "we-can't-afford-it" c&%p is about over, if there's no secret contract extention. Here's an idea ... come June 30, shake hands, say thanks, wave goodbye and use whatever we're spending on MM to hire someone else. If NIU wants to save money, elevate somebody on the current staff.
How about Anthony Beane Sr.? He coached at SIU, SEMO, Illinois State and St. Louis, far more in-line with an NIU program than Michigan State. You want some "big-time" connection? Beane played at Kansas State, and (according to his bio) he was the 1992 Big Eight Conference Newcomer of the Year and twice All-Big Eight. I don't care if his kid plays for the team. Patton's kid did. And you trust the coach to do what's best for the team.
Not pushing anybody. Just sayin'. Somebody, anybody. Just not MM. Need a change.

German would not have driven to the basket he would’ve also taken a 3pt shot. He did that several times made a couple missed most. NIU is bad but I totally believe if you put German on this team they have one loss at most. That’s why I’m so disappointed with them not recruiting a scoring guard. They’re guys like this on every team

Reading tea leaves...
I may be just reading in to things but this may be a ray of sunshine for many here. Montgomery isn't currently recruiting. He has, at a minimum, 3 scholarships available next season and has only currently offered 1 scholarship (Keon Thompson).
Is that odd? I'm not sure the strategy but currently, most..if not all...other MAC teams have about 7 to 10 outstanding offers on the table to recruits.
So, either Monty is planning on going heavy on the JUCO route again next year or he's on his way out as a lame duck head coach along with the rest of his coaching staff.
I'm guessing, they're just letting the contract run itself out.

It's fortunate the Huskies Invest campaign raised the bulk of more than $600,000 before this situation we're in now.
It's hard to raise money when your two "flagship" programs are putting your fan base to sleep.
