So does Stetson. Point is that it wouldn't be ASUN football.

RE: ASUN EXPANSION
Dayton - St. Louis - Belmont.

That cracks me up. Dayton and St. Louis play in a conference WAY above the ASUN level! It’s laughable, in my opinion, to even think of their interest in the ASUN. People more often mention them with the Big East. That’d be a tough choice Big East or ASUN? Which would you take? And Belmont has already been here. The OVC provides them with a bus ride conference. That’s about it. I don’t imagine they would be too excited about coming back to the ASUN.

Yeah.... I think we all know who our real expansion options are...

A few schools from the OVC, Southland, one possible from the SoCon, one or two possible from the Big South and a couple of possibilities from D2 GSC.

There could be the extreme outside chance Elon or Charleston to leave the CAA... but and extreme outside chance at best...

Ah. Merely was a correction, as I thought the post was stating that UD doesn't have a football program. And I completely agree that there's absolutely no way the Flyers have even the slightest interest in the ASUN.

RE: ASUN EXPANSION
Is ASUN expansion more.....
A) Survival- Get a large enough pool of teams to survive current members leaving?
B) Impove Quality- Pick and choose teams that raise the profile of the ASUN?
It’s probably both but more one than the other.

I dont know...

What schools have a real chance to leave the ASUN, or better question, who is looking to move?

Liberty- would probably want a "higher profile" conference but as of yet, dont see an option. And I think Liberty officials want independence in football as long as possible. So that limits movement.

All the Florida schools have little options, if any.

KSU- some think FBS, but with basketball in the position they are in, I dont see it.

Lipscomb- stable, dont see them leaving

UNA- if the 3 come, would probably never leave as long as they stay.

Bellarmine-per president, likes the geographic profile of the ASUN and it fits what they are trying to do.

As far as the 3 being rumored to join, its merely to solidify the conference and put the ASUN in position to have FCS football. (Strong FCS football).

They also open up options for future expansion.

RE: ASUN EXPANSION
I agree with lion1983. I think we are in a position where we need one school but the need isn't pressing so we need to add the right school or schools instead of just whoever will accept immediately.

If our goal is a strong southern FCS conference, we are on our way with our three potential additions. If we want a two-bid men's basketball conference, these additions don't really move the needle all that much. If we want to expand our footprint, only one is in a state we are currently not in.

As far as a 2 or more bid for basketball, out of the 3, EKU is usually pretty good. JSU is better than they used to be.

In my opinion, it's not on, or should it be on future schools to move that needle. It's on current schools to step up.

Liberty is doing well
Lipscomb needs to stay consistent
FGCU looks to be getting back to their old ways, but need to stay consistent

After that, in my opinion, UNA needs a signature win and continue to build, that's the piece holding them back as far as confidence goes, there have been plenty of close losses the past couple of years that UNA could have won, but youthful players and lack of confidence took over. But I think between UNA and Bellarmine, they should eventually be contending with Liberty, Lipscomb and FGCU for conference championships.

KSU, I dont know what their problem is, but they need to step up big time.

I thought this year would be progress in basketball, I blame it on covid.

If UCA is heading to the ASUN y'all should target UALR too. Bball minded. Plus they were OG members of the TAAC which is now the ASUN

Normally I would agree with that...

But the ASUN is trying to start football, so unless they want to start FCS football instead of FBS football, I think they are out...

By the way, have they ever considered football?

But I'm sure it's a no for FBS football....

I wonder if they see a place for FCS? If so, I could see them joining the ASUN with UCA...

Interesting, a SBC member advising us to take one of their own. I doubt a SBC member would show interest in the ASUN.

I do remember UALR being good in basketball occassionally. They would compliment UCA.

I have no reservations about Little Rock. Especially if we are going for 14.

RE: ASUN EXPANSION
UALR would be fine with me but not a top option.

I'm at a point where I don't really care what conference I'm in or what members are here if it isn't going to be significantly higher in the food chain. Everyone is essentially interchangeable to me. Stetson is the same as Presbyterian who is the same as Western Carolina. I just want schools that try to win and compete and make the conference better, schools that will spend money to build programs, facilities, and get coaches. I want fan bases that are rabid and growing. I want us to one-up each other. If we have schools like that, I don't care if we are the worst 10-14 schools in Division I because it won't be long before we work our way up. It won't be long before we all hate each other (in the best way possible) since we'll cause a big upset that ruins each others' seasons. We'll want to out perform each other and build up a brand better than other conferences that have members just around for the NCAA tournament paycheck. I care more about improving and I don't give a crap about academics in an athletic conference. Get everyone to raise the bar in men's basketball (and football if the ASUN gets it), then worry about all the other sports after we raise that.

No, not really. I didn't mean for it to read that way if that's how it was taken.

I just look around and see the SoCon, CAA, A-10 (after the top couple get raided which is the only way Liberty gets in), OVC, etc. and I just am not all that impressed. I don't care for Liberty to move from the 28th best basketball conference to the 25th best, or whatever. It's all peanuts if it isn't the Big East, American, or another top 9 or so conference.
