RE: RUMOR - WAC expansion close to being final
How does the Southland dig out of this hole at 8 members (6 FB)? They’d be on the brink of death like the MEAC.

They’ll be wishing Centenary didn’t drop down 10-whatever years ago. Gents would’ve been an easy instant add to get up to 9.

They dig out of it by its not actually happening in the first place.

Plus, 8 core members, 6 football members is not really a "hole."

But if you need a solution to the problem, get DavidSt on the batphone and send West Texas A&M an invite.

I think the best thing the southland could do is simply rename itself. No one wants to be in it, bar a handful of the lowest budgets and possibly UIW who is still getting their feet wet. Even Tarleton didn't want them. Talreton!

Everyone else seems ready to jump ship to literally anywhere that would take them, even if they end up playing the same old schools who've never done crap while in the Southland. God, even Oral Roberts would rather fly to Grand Forks and Fargo than play Southland schools.

If the WAC has a real plan in taking them, I'm cool with it. But I still don't know what the plan might be. FBS with these misfits seems far fetched. Chances are they will all leave before whatever the goal is is ever achieved.

Just remember David never predicted SUU or ACU to the WAC and he “predicted” SFA, SHSU, and Lamar to a FBS WAC when the WAC was trying to survive. Of course, only after there was reports of them trying to add those schools.

RE: RUMOR - WAC expansion close to being final
Since this has hit the main board now, after hundreds of pages in various Western Athletic Conference forums, the greater question should be discussed.

Is the WAC planning to return to the FBS level?

Is the WAC still an FBS conference, just inactive? If they simply have enough FBS playing schools, does their former status in FBS ensure it will happen?

If the number of FBS conferences is the issue, none have been created since the WAC last played football so FBS is actually playing a conference down since that time.

To be fair I think we all know Tarleton did want in the SLC. The feeling wasnt mutual so Tarleton had to go with the WAC.

I’m not sure either but if the goal is FBS, I don’t know how Southern Utah or Dixie St plan on competing at that level. The Texas schools could probably figure it out but the Utah schools are way out of their element

I'm with you. I don't feel like I have a sense of what the plan is. FCS makes the most sense, so its probably not that.

Correct. For those that do not know, there is 1 Tarleton fan who claims they wanted the WAC all along and not the SLC. Also, that TSU is the “crown jewel” of conference expansion.

Could it be they want to form a regional FCS conference that doesn't include trips to Montana and Idaho?

NMSU may want to move down at this point.

McNeese and SELA forums are closed to the public, so there’s that. Who knew their boards were so high in demand.

McNeese’s fate is most interesting as they have the deepest tradition/strongest fan base/best stadium of the remaining schools.

RE: RUMOR - WAC expansion close to being final
West Texas A&M's AD hinted that some Lone Star schools including them could jump ship to D1. LSC have like 20 schools and a UTD looking at going to D2? It would be way too many mouths to feed in a conference.

Southland have a pick of the litter from the D2 LSC, Arkansas Tech, Central Oklahoma, Southern U. and Texas Southern to go with to backfill.

Dixie State is expanding their stadium which is supposed to go up to 15,000.

Slim hopes of an FBS future maybe.

Please don't say that. FBS is already watered down by 50 schools

It is possible that three of these schools are looking to leave soon. Those would be the outliers.

Which 3 and where are they headed? I’ll help. Nobody is taking Chicago State and Seattle is not worthy of the WCC.
