RE: This Is Tim Lester
Even though things look dim (BSU is obviously riding a wave of confidence while we are starting to flail), I’ll wait until next weekend to see if Lester does his Lester thing, or if we pull one out of a hat.

I thought our squeaker against 0-5 NIU would be a wake up call, but instead we got way more out of sorts.

Football and athletics in general is just part of the problem. Given the piss poor leadership across this university, I’m more worried about whether WMU will exist in 10-20 years or just be converted to MSU/UM - Kalamazoo.

I’d be fine with it if it weren’t a graveyard in here after wins, and if certain posters only show up here during losses. Clearly they are still watching, so they must love the team. In the 19 seasons I have been a fan, whether it was Mdead or here, only one season was this my Bronco happy place, despite quite a few of those seasons having some good football.

I think that’s really good analysis, RunningGame.

Ok Drama. Kathy did this by hiring her man crush when times were great.

Yeah... maybe we should have hired Les Miles. Things are going great for him....

No, but she could have done a National coaching search like most D-1 schools do (especially ones coming off of a NY6 bowl season would have done). Instead she interviewed two coaches that were throwing themselves at her with one being a decoy the entire time.

Gun to your head...should Lester get rid of big Lou or no? If no..why?

Yes. Absolutely. They need to move on from Lou. He’s a great guy but it’s time to move on. I know for a fact that they talked to more than two candidates during the search.

James Madison is probably a better job than Western Michigan. Better facilities, playing for national championships, more resources than ANY of your competitors. You can’t just say names of people and assume we would have got them. Do they want to move their family? What’s their reputation like? Do they work well with the athletic department? What’s their recruiting base like?

RE: This Is Tim Lester
Our D isn't mediocre -- not by a long-shot. It's our powerful O that ends up making us mediocre, in a way.

Big Lou better have our D shore things up for Ball State -- otherwise, he and his over-sized waistline will be GONE!

Our D has SUCKED this year. Granted, EMU was probably the best winless team in the nation -- especially when getting ready to play a team they So want to beat. Still, over 50 points? Really? I could see 3 turnovers + 13 penalties for nearly 100 yards putting them in position to score in the high 30s, but still. Only putting them in position to punt ONCE is sickening. No exaggeration.

Our D hasn't been good this year, allowing open receivers and gaping holes on the run FAR too often. Going into this game, we relied on the opposing team's O to make mistakes, to keep them from getting indefinite 1st downs. We gave up 30pts to CMU in the 2nd half, we gave up 50+ points to the EMOOs who are usually bad on O on a bad day, and decent-at-best on O on a good day. And of course tons of points vs Toledo, but did shore things up to make them more earn it in (although requiring no acrobatic feats) the 2nd half.

Ball State has a good O. If we don't keep their O under 40pts, Big Lou needs to get fired. Win or lose.

Actually EMU scored a series record today and apparently WMU doesn't so want to beat EMU?

Well said. We’re still playing for a freaking championship. That’s what we want year in year out now. But yes fix the defense please and the dumb penalties

FYI in case you wondered whatever happened to Daoust, he did get a job. He is the DL coach at Sam Houston State. An FCS program (a good one) in Texas.

RE: This Is Tim Lester
It's very frustrating we've knocked on the door 3 years in a row now (& 5 of the last 6 w/ only one championship game appearance & championship) & Seeing teams w/out much more talent then us like Ball St & Central winning the division makes it worse. Plus what's held us back is getting upset by teams in the cellar of the division.

I've seen it in the pros: decent-to-good coach who chokes in the playoffs to teams w/ lesser talent year-in and year-out. TL'd be on the hot-seat there.

But other then Buffalo's coach, I don't think there's a coach in the conference I'd put head & shoulders over Lester. Most of us here would've fired Chuck Martin before last year, & this will be Mike Neu's first winning record at Ball St. Bowling Green overnight went from dominating the MAC to getting blown out by teams that haven't won in 2 years. Sean Lewis gets credit for turning Kent around, but doesn't have much more to show for it. Creighton, while it'd be interesting to see what he could do anywhere other than Ypsi, is losing patience w/ the fans.

I have no idea what happened to our defense. More often then not it seemed like they were the ones keeping us in games last year. Did we lose a lot of players there, especially in the backfield?

This could be an outlier, tho. I give the Central game a pass. We were dominating them & I think that game we just let off the gas some. NIU scored about their average.

If the game's held, I'm not convinced Ball St is an automatic L like many here seem to be thinking. They squeaked by everyone they beat except for Central. If the Defense & Esposito at least show up & game-plan, I don't see it being any worse then another down-to-the-wire ballgame.

I'm not knocking Eastern because they are obviously better than their record (close losses), and Creighton is one of the better coaches in MAC.

But to lose to them at home, allowing them to score on their last seven possessions, and with all the penalties and fumbles when we are in the hunt for MAC-West and MACC trophy is unacceptable.

Fayad, Heyward, Moment and Lupro are among the best defensive players in MAC.

RE: This Is Tim Lester
The loss would’ve been far more palatable if it was something like a 28-24 final, ball bounced funny a few times, stuff happens.

But the 13 penalties along with EMU scoring at will is troubling. Granted ST and offense gave EMU a short field a few times, but 42 points should be enough to beat an opponent, especially an 0-4 one.

Lester will need to do more than “look at film and correct a few things.” We just sort of imploded.

Overarching, regardless of who’s ever HC, we need to better prepare for EMU. They are envious and resentful of the fun WMU-CMU rivalry and feel left out, so they are more “up” when they play us.

We still have chance to win MAC-West title if we go to Muncie and win.

We did clinch MAC title in '88 there.

And then MACC championship at Ford Field.

As much as I'd like to be - not optimistic about either outcome.

Bad loss at Testicle Tech two years ago in Lester's second year has me nervous.

Yeah, what? Every time they had a negative 1st first down, we went offsides to give them 2nd and 6.
