No, but you could schedule a year in advance.

RE: General Game Discussion, December 4-6
20 years ago it was usually only 5-6 years in advance. And at one point the 11th game HAD to be scheduled no more than a year prior to the beginning of the season. It was intended as an opportunity to create good matchups. Instead, it mostly became another buy game. As did the 12th at first. But the Big 12, Big 10 and Pac 12 essentially used it for another conference game.

A few losses in the bottom rankings might put Liberty in the top 25 CFP rankings. The cancel game with CCU might help them.

RE: General Game Discussion, December 4-6
A few thoughts ...

* Strong win for Coastal C. Legit team that could beat most teams in the nation not named Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson. I did not see the game but my elderly father (who has watched college football games since the 1950) said both CC and BYU are very good teams and was complimentary of both.

* On a similar theme ... great job BYU. On the road with minimal prep time against a top 20 team. Nothing to be ashamed of.

* As an MTSU grad, I feel badly for C-USA due to Marshall losing at home to Rice. You can't sugar-coat this one.

* Major congrats to Notre Dame. As a man of Anglo-Celtic descent and Catholic background, I have a soft spot in my heart for the Fighting Irish. A true top four team this season.

* And if I might be a homer ... the Indiana Hoosiers made me proud tonight. As Cheap Trick recently sang ... "It's been a long time comin' ..."

Easily. College basketball teams do it.

There is value to scheduling long-established non-conference rivalries (USC-Notre Dame, Florida State-Florida, etc.) for several years at a time. But there is no good reason that a CFB team should be sitting here today with no non-conference vacancies at all for the next several years.

RE: General Game Discussion, December 4-6
This was perhaps even weirder than ULL taking the two safeties.

UCLA down 1 to ASU with 1:18 left, 1st and goal. They run. The runner hits a defender at the one foot line and tries to go down. Defender tries to strip him, then several defenders try to pull him into the end zone and throw up their hands for TD. Meanwhile, UCLA player is trying to go down.

FGs and extra points are missed. You take the points when you can get them. I've seen teams let others score, but never carry them into the end zone.

RE: General Game Discussion, December 4-6
Nevada-Fresno finished late and provided a clear MWC title game.

Since Nevada won, the Nevada-San Jose provides one participant.

Boise is probably the other (not sure how the tiebreak vs. SJSU works if both lose).

Also, its Alabama-Florida, Iowa St.-Oklahoma and Clemson-Notre Dame.

Ball St.-WMU play for one spot in the MAC. Buffalo has the other spot according to some reports. If Buffalo hasn't already clinched it, then it means if Buffalo loses and Ohio wins next week, Ohio goes.

Sun Belt is ULL-Coastal Carolina, AAC is Cincinnati-Tulsa twice in a row, but the first doesn't count.

Win, lose or draw, Ohio St. is in. But if they don't do any of those 3, Indiana plays Northwestern.

CUSA and Pac are a mess.

One thing they noted last night in the Pac. If a division champion can't play, the runnerup goes to the CCG.

Western Kentucky ............... 10

Charlotte ............................ 0

2Q

Glad Charlotte is on the field. They missed the entire month of November via cancelations, haven't played since losing to Duke on Halloween, 36 days ago.

Also shows the big disparity within some conferences. This is Charlotte's sixth game, for WKU it is their 11th game.

Rice was just playing their 4th vs. Marshall yesterday. It was Marshall's 8th. UTSA has already played 11.

SJSU not SJST

Fresno State, Long Beach State, Sacramento State, et al, require the ST or State because their names do not include University. It's California State University, Fresno or other city. But San Jose State is San Jose State University; the "U" is in the four letter abbreviation, just as it is for San Diego State or SDSU.

It is a distinction of the oldest schools in the CSU system that they retained their name without the California State University prefix.

Note: some schools emphasize the CSU, e.g., Cal State LA, Cal State Fullerton, CSU Bakersfield, CSUN, Cal State East Bay, etc. Others like Fresno State, Chico State, Stan State prefer to emphasize their city or county over the CSU, but in doing so don't have a "U" in their name.

I know it's nitpicking, but it's like calling Colorado UC instead of CU or USC So Cal instead of Southern Cal. It's not life threatening, but it is annoying.

Colorado is "the University of Colorado." CU is a Big 8 thing. OU, KU, MU and NU are all "University of ..." unlike Indiana which actually is "Indiana University."

Thanks, If I remember, I'll ask my secretary to ask her personal assistant's gofer to take that under advisement and report back to someone on it. Maybe next quarter.

RE: General Game Discussion, December 4-6
Looks like USC is simplifying the Pac 12 situation. Up 38-6 early in the 3rd.

Should they hold on, they win with a win next week or a loss coupled with a Colorado loss. USC loss next week and CU wins means Colorado wins.

And WSU gets knocked out so the winner of the UW/Oregon game next week decides it. UW would be alone at 4-1 with a win. Oregon would win tiebreaks with a win at 4-2. UW and Stanford would be 3-2 but Oregon would have beaten both.
