This is a weird statement to complain about. We're talking about collegiate athletics, here. It's a bunch of teenagers. Don't you want people in charge who also see developing these young people into the best versions of themselves as a priority? I understand they don't necessarily have to be mutually exclusive, but I'd gladly trade a win or two here or there across any program for assurance that JMU athletics is doing it's best to make good people.
I love you Preston

Anyone who thinks Coastal is the ninth best team in the nation is absolutely crazy. If they were in the ACC, PAC 10, Big10 or SEC they would be 4-6 or worse. Ranked ahead of Florida? Let's get real, please.

Theyre the 9th best team according to the people that make the polls so thats really all that matters other than what the CFP says

Can somebody explain how playing fcs instead of fbs "makes good people?" Can we all say, "smokescreen?"
If the AAC were to invite JMU the trade off is "making good people?"

When did anyone say that? Did Bourne's quote have anything to do with FCS vs. FBS? Dukeman posted a quote with Bourne seemingly saying there's more to judging success than solely looking at Win-Loss on the field. Dukeman didn't provide any analysis, because that's what Dukeman does, but knowing him I assume he posted the quote because he is dismissive of that attitude. Purple's response was clearly dismissive of that attitude. I said I support an attitude that values other qualities in an athletics program than just winning at any cost, especially at the collegiate level. I meant no assessment of FBS vs. FCS.

I can't wait to some day have the argument with someone whether JMU's #9 ranking in FBS is legit.
Please let me be in position some day for JMU to finish in top FBS Top 10 so I can defend it to other fans.

Does Coastal follow UCF in winning a " Co - National championship " with whoever wins the CFP, since they will be snubbed ?

If they beat Lousiana in the Sun Belt Championship and then their bowl game opponent I think they should.

"Monitoring the situation" and "making good people," worthless platitudes, as useful as the tits on a boar hog.
You are right - athletic success and academic success need not be mutually exclusive. We should and do, I believe, strive to produce the best student-athletes possible. A lot of that success depends on the cooperation and motivation of the student athlete himself or herself. We can't sacrifice one at the expense of the other. In the end, it all works out.

You guys knit pick everything to try to support your position and frustrations. What Jeff Bourne said about the spirit of college athletics has nothing to do with JMUs aspirations to play FBS football.

If if/when they get snubbed but win their last two games, chances are they will finish the season as a top 5-7 team in the country which would be incredible

If I remember correctly, the above Bourne statement was made available as the men's basketball team was on the verge of not being able to give tickets away if the tickets had a $20 bill attached.
I interpreted the statement as a forced statement the year before the Atlantic came online.
To be expected, the statement was wrapped in P.C. jargon and danced around the issue of one of the two revenue sports having attendance trending towards < three digit attendance reported per home game and knowing that scheduling all OoC home games with DIII's was not going to sell season ticket packages.

Another quote from our leadership team to ponder:
“I think we look at all of the peers in the league and say we’re committed,” Bourne said. “If we work hard and do the things we need to do with our schedules and everybody recruits and plays well, you’ve got a chance. The league can come back.”
