Congratulations Coach
A proud Kent State grad and product of our football program was in the national news yesterday when Lou Holtz received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I’m guessing the KSU media peeps are off for the holidays already so here’s a link:

Sorry, my bad, thinking of the honor and typed Honor instead of Freedom.

Apology don't want to steal original thread ,easier for me to ask this question here.
Based on posting this board it appears that the AD is not being renewed. Accepting this is there anyone trying to renew Coach Lewis contract? Realize revenues down but thinking a gesture to move him up from the lowest paid coach in the MAC would be a positive message to send

Unfortunately I think he’s wise enough to not take whatever extension they throw his way. He’s already checked the box for being a Head Coach, even if he doesn’t get poached ( which I think he will) he can earn more money being a coordinator at a bigger program until that HC opportunity comes calling.

Well, if he does get it, he will have been here longer than either Glen Mason or Darrell Hazell.

Agree he could do better, would like to know what the word "interview" means to the writer's source.
What some people would call a contact others might call an "interview".
No inside information but why would you go to a program you beat in a bowl game and no ties to the area.

RE: Congratulations Coach
They're in a more nationally respected conference but their conference lacks the perennial powers that you can't unseat. Boise is normally really good, but it's not the same thing as a OSU, MSU, Wisconsin, Penn St, etc. So it could be the next step up on the way to eventually ending up at one of the top schools. No national power is likely to hire out of the MAC. So in my opinion a job like that is more attractive than going to a place like Purdue where the deck is immediately heavily stacked against you in your own conference. Plus I'm sure he'd make more money at Utah St than Kent.
With that said, I do think it would be a better decision to wait a year and look for a better option. He's spent the majority of his coaching and playing career in the mid west. Going to Utah is probably moving away from his recruiting connections.
In my (very biased) opinion, Lewis and Crum both coming back for one more full year will be the best thing for both of their futures as next year could be a really good year. My nightmare is the two of them going somewhere else (and taking McKoy with them) to see if they can wreck a higher level together.

RE: Congratulations Coach
With the new immediate eligibility rule, we may see a lot of college coaches leaving and taking their best players with them.

Last time they finished over .500 was 2011. Last time they were more than 1 game over .500 was 2007. This would be a hard place to win. Lewis would be better off waiting if he does get interest here.

Illinois football has been a perennial loser in the Big Ten. Sure, they've had their moments, but they have been few and usually far between. Quite frankly, I would think any head coach would be leery of taking any job in the Big Ten other than Ohio State. Since Ohio State has turned itself into one of the nation's few super powers, they have dominated recruiting. Last year they recruited more top 100 high school players than the rest of the conference combined.

Obviously the big tier programs like Ohio State or Michigan aren’t going to come calling but I’d caution going to a place like Illinois or Purdue or the other schools that are just trying to stay out of the basement in their conference. Hard to turn down that payday from KSU to one of those schools, but succeeding will be hard. LikeMuskrat points out OSU is on another level than the rest of the conference, and the gap from top to bottom is tremendous,

The definition of success at some of these loser programs will make the position attractive. Schools like Illinois would be very happy with a 7-8 win season. They will pay $3-4 million for that achievement and do it with a smile. Illinois is a puzzle because they have the resources.
