Rose Bowl will not allow fans

Should the semifinal game scheduled for the Rose Bowl be moved, possibly to the Peach Bowl which is already scheduled for January 1 and which is geographically close to Miami? This would minimize required travel and I assume allow some fans to attend.

They are definitely going to think about it. No reason to go to LA without fans and if there are no schools west of the Mississippi.

If indoor facilities are problematic, move the game to Tallahassee. If any fans attend, there should be hotel rooms throughout North/Northwest Florida. This avoids a potential logjam in Tampa (Bucs home game on January 3, plus the Outback Bowl), and Orlando (multiple bowls).

Jacksonville should in theory be available, but if the Jags' Week 16 game were delayed, it could get messy.

In other words, since the Rose Bowl will not allow fans, then fans should not allow the Rose Bowl? 03-drunk

I’d say move the Rose Bowl game somewhere else this year. If the Rose Bowl ends up being ND vs Ohio St they should move it somewhere like Indianapolis.

The Rose Bowl was played in Durham, NC on 1/1/42.

RE: Rose Bowl will not allow fans
When I was an undergrad at UCLA in the 1980's, I attended three Rose Bowl games (the glory days of UCLA football - I think they've only played two other Rose Bowls since then). The 1984 Rose Bowl (UCLA vs Illinois) was awesome - a Cal Tech student hacked into the scoreboard (which was still a pretty rudimentary computer display) and changed the teams from UCLA and Illinois to Cal Tech and MIT. I recall they did that late in the game and UCLA was well in control of the win (they won 45-9). The Rose Bowl folks couldn't figure out how to fix it, so they just turned off the scoreboard for the final few minutes of the game.

Ah good times - I feel badly for the folks who can't go to that game this year (or the Rose Parade either, one would assume).

The Gator Bowl is scheduled for January 2. Tallahassee is an interesting idea, though.

why fly two teams to a state that clearly wants to be on lockdown when their are hundreds of other places this game could be played?

I don’t why anybody would think that the Rose Bowl would allow fans on January 1st if they have not allowed fans for either UCLA home game. There are no fans allowed at any sporting event in California and I don’t see that changing anytime in the next 90 days. California does not want to be on lockdown, they are just trying to keep the hospitals from being overrun. My wife works at a 1,000 bed hospital in LA and they have no beds available.

They could send the game to some other part of the country, but how many people would actually want to attend or be allowed to attend?

Fan attendance anywhere is a bad idea.

Lots of people would want to attend.

The Cincinnati @ UCF game had over 10,000 fans in attendance. Florida-Georgia and Alabama-Auburn each had over 19,000.

Almost anything can be solved with money, right? There's NFW any of the other bowls would agree to take this year's semifinal in exchange for giving the Rose Bowl a semifinal in a non-pandemic year, but if the CFP or anyone else writes the Rose Bowl a check for many millions, then maybe they can move this year's semifinal to Brooker or Micanopy or wherever else they want to play it.

Put it at Jerry World. He'll sell 60,000 seats and call it 25% capacity.

I wish the CFP go tell the Rose Bowl to GFY. Cancel the game and move the CFP to another site. Since B10/P12. If their champs don't make it to the CFP, they are flat out of luck. Their automatic bid bowl was canceled. I doubt the CFP has the balls to do it. It was the B10/P12 that started the whole we don't want to play football. They folded like a cheap suit when the other conferences said they were going to play. I would love to see them punished for their rash decisions. 03-nutkick

The politicians out there certainly live in their own special world. Move the game somewhere else where we have learned to live with this and can be trusted to act like adults.
