A new day and back to updating the WAC transfer list...

Ouch. Uche is a major loss. The others were seniors who would have gone in a normal year anyway, most of them looked like they'd peaked, and some (Rhea, Levi) were starting to show a bad attitude on the court. Uche was a junior, getting markedly better every year, and looked like he enjoyed being a UTRGV player. I was expecting him to be our star player next year.

Changing my mind about keeping Steadman....

RE: WAC Transfers
Add UVU's JJ Overton and Seattle's Robert Hutchens to the transfer portal list. Overton will be a big hit on the UVU program.

Tarleton State's Heritier Ngalamulume is transferring, probably the only big man on their roster.

He didn’t play much so this isn’t surprising. If he couldn’t play on a team as the only big, he needed to go elsewhere.

Good luck to him.

RE: WAC Transfers
Of note is where players are transferring... are they really getting into better situations? Barber is making a relatively lateral move to a fellow HBCU while Pryor and Monroe are "improving" which league they play ball in. Bennett is leaving after a coaching move, which is understandable and still landed at a Division I.

3/27/2021 - New Mexico State JUCO PG Nate Pryor (6-4, 175, 2★) is transfering to New Mexico State from Washington.
3/24/2021 - Chicago State JUCO PF Michael Barber (6-9, 225, 3★) committed to Alabama State.

3/29/2021 - Lamar JUCO SG Quinlan Bennett (6-3, 205, 2★) will be transferring to Western Illinois.
3/25/2021 - Sam Houston State 2020 PG Bryce Monroe (5-11, 170, 2★) will be transferring to San Diego.

Nate Pryor isn't transferring from NMSU, he is transferring to NMSU from Washington.

Any sense of why some of these guys are leaving? I thought guys usually transferred because they didn't get playing time or are stuck in hopeless programs.

Lots of the transfers from the Southland schools are neither. I don't get it.

I know Lamar's coach is leaving, but besides that...

Mario mentioned that the blanket additional year of eligibility has put the transfer market in a tizzy. Schools have the same scholarship maximum, but extra players, which I think has led to some jockeying.

That's backwards thinking. If you have a scholarship in hand at your present school, why would you put name out on the open market when you know there are a finite number of scholarships available and many more players jockeying for them?

Because schools may not be prepared to honor a scholarship for an additional year at the expense of offering a promising recruit, which leads to a glut of experience players on the transfer market, which leads to schools considering signing an experienced pick over their current options, which leads to their current options getting worried about playing time and looking elsewhere. And so the cycle continues. I may be wrong, I’m no expert on the transfer market’s dynamics.
