Next up is Troy at 293 and Non-D1 Mobile. This is the weakest part of the schedule.
Games 6-10 will be more challenging.
UAB is ranked 104th.
I don't mind this start to the schedule when we have a new coach and 9 new players all trying to gel as a team, figure out rotations, and get in a rhythm.
I think we'll start to see a better schedule next year.
A lot of the games were inherited from the previous staff.

Nor do I. Also, in recent years, a couple of these games would have likely been in the 10-15 point range.

He hasn't been bad for us so far just not as good as I expected. Hopefully he'll get it going.
I think Ertel has been average to above average. He's been pretty consistent with that 10-15' jumper from around the free throw line.

17 mins a game, 9 starts had me alarmed upon the signing. Hope he can find some PT early in 2nd half.
Are you saying that Kirkland hasn't been a Great Value so far?

Just now saw this on Twitter -

So far this season, UAB has won their 3 games by 49, 25 and 25 points. The last time the Blazers won 3 straight by 25+ was Dec. 22-30, 1989 when they defeated San Diego State, New Hampshire and Alabama State by 45, 25 and 33 respectively. #WinAsOne

Missed a lot of time with COVID issues(couldn't practice or be around team); not in shape to play right now; prob behind in offensive and defensive schemes; does add some length and can provide fouls; like Rongie Gordon playing in his place-will be very good for UAB.

Last night was more like I expected. I am very happy to have him. Prob not our best defensive lineup but I like him and Jalen in the game together. Great ball-handling and scoring punch. Prob our best scoring back court since the AJ and Jamarr days.

I think he can get in the rotation eventually. He looks to be the 2nd best among the group of freshman.

I don't mind these games this year either. I don't want to see too many of them going forward, but this year I am totally fine with it. It's also very encouraging to see us basically dominate these opponents while not shooting particularly well, having a brand new team and coaching staff, and playing pretty sloppy (all things that aren't unexpected so early in the season). We would've bumbled our way to a 15 point win against these teams, or worse, with Ehsan.

This. Is it sexy to play 3 teams in the bottom 10% of D1? Absolutely not, but at least the Blazers are blowing them out...something we haven't really seen the past several years. Blowing them out also improves your advanced metric ratings (well KenPom at least, not sure about NET) for whatever that's worth.
