Female Vandy Kicker
Anyone care to share an opinion on Sarah Fuller kicking for Vandy last week? Or, are we too scared to be honest about it?

Good news is, she only has to kick once per game. Opening kickoff.

I just didnt get it. A squib kick to the 35 yard line... If I were a college head coach and was given the option of starting a the 35 yard line, id take it every time.

Got the coach fired.LOL well, maybe the rest of the losses had something to do with it.

But come on if you are going with a member of the women's soccer team for kicking at least get a striker, this girl was the goalie.

It doesn't have anything to do with the Tigers.

That's why I posted it on the NTR (Not Tiger Related) sports board.

Why post if you don't know the facts?

Vandy lost their special teams because of contact tracing. There were zero eligible kickers on the team. The coach couldn't post for anyone in the student body to try out because Vandy is virtual learning for the majority of its students. She was suggested and available. Nobody on the men's soccer or other players on the football team stepped up.

A goalie kicks much further in a typical soccer game than any other player.

Finally, for relevant discussion, the ONLY thing I object to is her being named the SEC Special Team Player OTW. THAT was a publicity stunt and an insult to every male ST player.

RE: Female Vandy Kicker
Honestly I feel bad for her.

She didn't "ask" for all this heat, especially the criticism about being chosen simply because she has a ****** and not for her ability. Unfortunately, that is likely the case.

There were some clips of her in warmups kicking FG's from the 20 ish yard line that were barely making it over the crossbar. Physically, she doesn't have the leg to get the ball up enough to not get it blocked, so I wonder what will happen if Vandy gets to the, say, 20 yard line and faces a 4th and long.

Do they attempt a 37 yard FG or elect to go for a difficult 4th down?

Will be interesting to see, if they try a field goal or extra point, and the snap is bobbled and lands in front of her. Does she pick it up and try to make a play? Does she run away from it? If she does pick it up, does a 270lb dude try to smash her? Same with kickoff. If the opposing team fields it and starts to run, do they lay her out on a block? Does she see the live ball situation and run off the field?

Kirby said they don't account for the kicker on special teams returns. He said if it gets down to beating the kicker, they are generally past coverage blocking and it's the job of the returner to take care of business.

I am just interested to see how far away in distance the HC will be willing to expose Fuller to potential embarrassment.

If she tries a 30 yarder and it lands in the middle of the end zone, how will that play?

If he knows her range is essentially no more than 25 yards, how will it look if Vandy is going for it on 4th and 7 from the 12?

Maybe you should actually check the facts before discussing facts. Vandy doesn't have a mens soccer team.

Goalies have free kicks and not kicking on the run.

RE: Female Vandy Kicker
Thought she did great. Really liked the story they did on GameDay.

She was asked the week of the game to step in due to all the available kickers being on COVID protocol. Vandy (and I think all SEC schools?) doesn't have a varsity mens soccer team so they reached out the girls soccer head coach for help.

No return on the kick, it was perfectly placed. Did her job exactly under what I can imagine being pretty intense pressure.

And honestly with the way Vandy played, maybe they should see if she can be QB?

Minor correction. Vandy was desperate to shift the news from being winless to anything else...

If she's kicking a FG, then you can bet the opposing team will have a return guy in the end zone. Even Saban probably understands this rule now.
