Team Statistics Help Telll the Story to the Rockets Good Start
Some interesting Team Statistics for the Men’s Bball Team that has led to the team’s 7-3 start to the season:

* Averaging 75.3ppg. while giving up 67.2ppg.

* Three Point Shooting – Shooting .385% while holding opponents to only 27%. Made 104 threes vs. 60 for their opponents –132 point difference!

* Free Throw Shooting – Shooting .776%. Made more Free Throws (149) than their opponents have shot (148)!

* Despite using smaller lineups since the injury to Edu, Rockets have held their own on the boards and have outrebounded their opponents 38.9rpg. vs. 35.4rpg.

A couple of statistics that the Rockets need to improve on is overall shooting .(415%) and turnovers per game (12.3) that TK has said in the past he would like to limit to 10 per game. While the games are going to get more competitive for Toledo as they get into league play full time this weekend, if they can maintain these "key" statistics for the remainder of the season, they should at least contend for the MAC title.

As they move onward this season, I see Acunzo playing more and more minutes, along with Shumate.

For once we agree on something LOL I think the freshman nucleus of Rollins Hill and Accunzo will make for a lot of fun the next 3 seasons.

Rockets have done a better job than I hoped they would minus Edu.

I thought they’d have a rough time rebounding even with Edu, and that just really hasn’t been the case so far, thanks in no small part to some aggressive rebounding by guards.

There were 1 or 2 on this Board who spoke highly of Acunzo back when he signed—kudos to you! He has been a large contributor. I think as Shumate gets his playing legs completely there, he will make even more contributions than he has so far.

Rollins is a true freshman & has moments that prove it, but without a doubt we’d be in worse shape without him.

Team defense has been as good as I can recall any other TK team here.

Road will get tougher in MAC play, but I could see a top 4 finish.

Agree. And it is shooting that is biggest surprise for me. He was averaging about 41% from field and 25% from 3 playing as a guard at other colleges. Now 50% from field and 46% from 3 as a forward at UT.

I have said it a few times on her, but I think this coaching staff TK has is really talented in player development, recruiting and game coaching. I think that has helped improve team defense and talent level. The current roster is deep and the incoming recruits look promising. As Pono has said I think raheim Moss next year will make an impact if he can develop and improve his academics and off the court discipline.

RE: Team Statistics Help Telll the Story to the Rockets Good Start
on another thread basketballjones quoted TK saying that they are monitoring the transfer portal for a mid-year big man transfer. i got no inside scoops but 2 interesting possibilities just announced they are seeking a mid year transfer w immediate eligibility. justin winston (sp?) a 6-8 soph forward from st bonaventure who had a bunch of bigger offers and had a good freshman season is looking to transfer. a combo forward w a nice 3 point stroke but some muscle at 215 lbs. also ahmad rand is leaving memphis. was a top 15 juco last year and led juco in blocked shots. ridiculous leaper who rebounded well too at a 27-4 juco program. 6-8 junior whose best college offer was memphis and didn't get much pt this year. missed some time w covid exposure and was the odd man out in the frontcourt when memphis added a sit-out transfer after the ncaa made everyone eligible. no idea on if either of these guys are good kids and fit the program but both are the type of transfers the staff would be interested in-talented players who would improve the team but aren't gonna get a ton of P5 type interest right now and might jump at a key role on a conference leading mid major.
