Forget the 3rd and 2. We played ahead of them up to a 53 yard FG.

Every time I think about the Peach Bowl, I get pissed off. We should have won that game.

We win that game if Hudson plays the 2nd half.

Not only do we win, I think we pull away in the second half and win by 10-14 points. With Hudson in I think we see a heavy dose of Ford and Ridder running the ball with high percentage passes to Whyle and company to keep that clock churning. After Ford broke off that 79 yard run to start the half, he only got the ball two more times in the second half. He finished with only 8 carries for 97 yards.

I loved his for the most part, but there were a few plays that his emotions got the best of him and he made some bonehead plays.

I agree. This is one of those games we'll never completely erase from our collective memory because it was a two yard gain away from a guaranteed victory.

Beyond that, there remain many opportunities to second guess offensive decision making, execution, and certainly Hudson's absence. Watching on New Year's Day, I feared the game was lost as the 3rd quarter ended. Following that amazing TD run by Ford after halftime, nothing worked right again on offense and I had that creeping fear Cincinnati fans know all too well...and that several of our AAC opponents experienced the prior year after building leads and watching UC come back at the very end.

As time expires, it's a great way to win. It's a terrible way to lose.

After that 3rd qtr Jerome Ford touchdown, Georgia defenders were getting around the left tackle on virtually every play.

When Hudson was ejected, it didn't bode well. We were all given false hope by that Ford TD that "all was well" but you're right, it wasn't the same offensive line without him. We all saw that effect in reverse the prior season when Hudson stepped into the lineup in Birmingham and UC thrashed BC.

I sure hope they have another underclassman to fill the LT spot, instead of going with the Metz experiment again.

RE: 2021 Bearcats Football
Hopefully the recruiting is catching up and our OL will be OK. Two years ago we had some issues, particularly in the Metz department. This year it was pretty darn special with Hudson bringing it all together. We’re not going to have someone at LT as good as Hudson but if we can have someone good and continue to improve at the other spots we’ll be ok.

If you listen to latest BCJ pods where Brady Collins is on, he talks about how Tunstall is already a good 300+ pounds and is a lot more athletic and agile than what is on film. Hopefully he and Williams are ready to step in at the guard spots.

Tunstall is a left tackle.

Tunstall is a left tackle.

And Williams is the RT. We have McConnell and O’Quinn back at guard with a lot of depth.

Tunstall will likely not be a James Hudson, but if he can not get 2-3 false start penalties and protect Des’ blind side he is better than what we got.

Bearcat Defense Rocks
This 2021 Bearcat Defense is experienced and productive. This is the best Defense UC has ever had! This is exactly the defense to beat ND and Indiana!
Predictions: Bearcats go 11-1 in 2021. LBs Beavers, Dublanko, and Huber all have the size for the NFL and will all play there. Van Fossen needs 15 more pounds and he will make it also.
I like the schedule: Murray State right before Indiana, open before ND. At Navy. No Memphis, no Houston until the AAC Championships.
Career Stats:
DE Myjai Sanders SR 6-5 258# 77 tackles, 11 sacks, 7 passes def; Sterling Miles SO 6-5 220#
DT Curtis Brooks GR 106 tackles, 4.5 sacks; Marcus Brown GR 68 tackles 4 sacks; Jabari Taylor RSSR 43 tackles 2 sacks, Justin Wodtly SO
DE Malik Vann SR 6-5 254# 54 tackles 5.5 sacks, Izaiah Ruffin SO RS 6-6 260#
WLB Darrian Beavers GR/TR 6-3 242#, 124 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 2 ints; Brody Ingle JR 19 tackles
MLB Joel Dublanko GR 6-3 235#, 117 tackles, 1 sack; Wilson Huber RSSR, 6-5 240# 18 tackles 1 sack
SLB Ty Van Fossen RSJR 6-2 220#, 39 tackles 2 sacks; Deshawn Pace, SO 10 tackles
CB Ahmad Gardner JR 59 tackles 0.5 sack, 6 ints; Jaquan Sheppard JR 10 tackles
SS Ja'von Hicks Jr SR 73 tackles, 5 int; Jacob Dingle JR 12 tackles
FS Bryan Cook RSSR/TR 43 tackles, 4 ints
CB Coby Bryant GR 118 tackles 6 ints; Justin Harris JR 18 tackles
NB Arquon Bush RSJR 39 tackles 4 ints; Taj Ward RSJR 18 tackles
Gone to the NFL from Defense: Elijah Ponder RS SR, Jarell White SR, Darrick Forrest SR, James Wiggins RS SR
Ethan Tucky RS SR/TR twitter account says “2021 NFL Draft Class”

Notre Dame loses five on defense, eight on offense, and has six returning QB completions.
Indiana loses three starters on defense and offense.

New ND QB Jack Doan from Whisky had R foot surgery October, 2010. Did not play at all in 2020 season. The last two games he played in were 2019 B10 Champ games against tOSU 0 TDp, 0 int, 2 sacks, 110.6 QB rating. 2020 Rose Bowl against Oregon 1 TD, 1 int, 114.8 QB rating. Career: 23 TD passing, 8 ints, 29 sacks, 76 rushes, -11 total rushing yards. Definitely not a runner. UC DL has 27 career returning sacks, not counting Beavers 8.5 sacks. I wonder what the Lost Vegas odds for the game at ND are.
Des Ridder’s last two games: 206 pass yds, 2 TDp, 0 int 129.5 QB rating at Georgia.
269 pass yds 1 TDp, 0 int 154.8 QB rating vs Tulsa.

RE: 2021 Bearcats Football
Welcome aboard the Chip Train Coach Paige!

Quote:Darren Paige was named the University of Cincinnati football program's running backs coach, Head Coach Luke Fickell announced Monday.

Paige, entering his second decade in coaching, came to UC after spending 2019-20 mentoring wide receivers at Eastern Michigan.

"Happy to complete our coaching staff with the hire of Darren Paige," Fickell said. "Darren was someone who really impressed us during the interview process. He's got a proven record of getting the best out of his players at every stop he's made, brings a perspective from outside our program and was the best possible fit for our program. Excited to see how that translates into on-the-field success as he takes over a very strong position group."

"I am very excited to get to work alongside this collection of men Coach Fickell has assembled on this staff," Paige said. "Coach Fickell is someone I have always admired and respected as a man and a coach. This opportunity is one I am truly grateful for and excited about. I am looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work with the young men in the program and our staff."

In two years in Ypsilanti, Paige was part of a staff which led the nation in red-zone offense in 2020 and put up over 5,000 yards of total offense and set three school records on the way to a Quick Lane Bowl appearance.

Paige has previous collegiate coaching stops at Stony Brook, Holy Cross, Midwestern State and Gannon. The Rossford, Ohio, native started his coaching career at Haines City (Fla.) HS in 2009.

He played collegiately at Miami (OH) in 2003 and transferred to Findlay where he led the Oilers in receptions and receiving yards from 2005-07, totaling 117 catches for 1,461 yards and eight touchdowns.

A 2008 graduate of Findlay, Paige also has a master's degree from Kent State.

Paige and his wife Amanda, have a son, Brandon.

Now let's get to work!

Honest question...but does PI count towards Passer Rating?

PFF had Gardner as the 2nd best defensive back returning in 2021. (Behind Stingley Jr.) And they had Sanders as the 5th best DL coming back in 2021.

Props to Coby as well. Led the nation with the most interceptions in MAN coverage @ 4 last year.

Arquon Bush is no slouch either.
