Not from a Rice football player, but one of my Baker College friends, Tommy Boothe, once told me about an experience he had as an undersized safety for Anahuac, which was in the same 3A league as Worster's Bridge City team

On one play, Worster broke through the line. Tommy said he was the last line of defense between the hard-charging RB and a TD. He dug in to make the tackle ... but didn't remember what happened. Because he woke up flat on his back with the Bridge City folks cheering the score.

Mikhail Gorbachev dead at 91: Russian media

For an all-too brief moment, there was something good in Russian leadership. Together with Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Saint Pope John Paul II, they brought down the Iron Curtain, and the qworld was a safer place for all.

Gorbachev was an important part of history and changed the world dynamics in ways that helped transform the globe during the end of the 20th century. Unfortunately after he lost his leadership position in Russia his short-lived stint as head coach of the Owls produced a 3-19 record over 2 seasons. When we will the Owls ever learn not to recycle old world leaders as head coaches….??

Pretty sad..."A month before Mikhail Gorbachev's death, a close friend said the former USSR president was upset at the current state of Russia and felt that his "life's work" had been ruined."

RE: OT: NEW He's Dead, Jim--notable Deaths thread
I was very involved in helping energy companies attempt to invest in Russia and other former Soviet Union countries in the early 90's and it is incredibly sad how it turned into a gigantic mess with absolute fraud grabbing the "goods" by the very few and transferring wealth to Cyprus, Switzerland and London. They had a real chance to do something very different, but nothing has changed in Russia in hundred's of years, just different names and window dressing......
