Best state for college basketball
I believe it was two years ago that the state of virginia tried a record by putting 7 schools into March madness and now we have 3 top 25. We have the defending champion in virginia. Any thoughts?

This is actually a really good quesiton. Very thought provoking. Off the top of my head, North Carolina would be the easy answer. Texas has some good teams. Virginia does as well. California. Who would we be missing?

Texas currently has #2, #10, and two at #17. They are probably best this year with TCU also receiving votes.

CUSA Regular Season + Tournament Champs: ODU
ACC co-champs and defending national champ: UVA
A10 regular season champs: VCU
MEAC Tournament runner up: NSU

As noted 7 in the dance last year and this year with 3 top 25. VA is from a quick subjective glance top tier.

I think it’s gotta be North Carolina since they have two blue bloods. But here are some others worth considering in a top ten.

Kentucky with Louisville, UK and WKU. Murray State, EKU and NKU have been good of late as well.

Tennessee has Memphis, UT and Vandy, which have all hung around the top 25 over the last decade. But they also have a bunch of mid and low majors who have made a name for themselves; Belmont, MTSU, ETSU, Austin Peay, Lipscomb, UT Martin, Chattanooga and Tennessee State.

Indiana has the Hoosiers, Purdue, Norte Dame and Butler. Their mid and low majors aren’t quite as deep as the other states mentioned but two of them are home to some very memorable moments in March Madness; Indiana State with Larry Bird and Valpo with Bryce Drew.

Those are good ones too. If you are talking about depth, then Im not sure those states compete with NC/VA, but the top end are strong.

Hard to argue with this. Texas and maybe California have more NCAA wins or winning programs, but they also have way more schools. Plus they don't have the basketball culture of a NC or Indiana.

Here's a top 10:
1. North Carolina
2. Kentucky
3. Indiana
4. Tennessee
5. New York (Syracuse, old-line St. John's, Big East tourney)
6. Ohio (Ohio State, Cincy, Xavier, Dayton, occasional Cinderellas like Wright State)
7. Virginia
8. Michigan (just for the Big Two)
9. California (almost exclusively for UCLA's run)
10. Texas (though you'd think with Texas, A&M, TT, Baylor and Houston they'd be way more successful)
