Schedule leak from RR’s Twitter? https://twitter.com/rickyrahne/status/14...88257?s=21

Looks like Army is the opening game in 2033

Good eye. Not sure I ever want to see the triple option in Ballard again, but Army would be a nice addition to our OOC schedule.

Past time to get Navy on there. Glad Army finally gets added.

I like it! But man, what a long time away. Hope I’m alive to see it in 12 years.

Do we know it’s not on the schedule before then and that isn’t just another season?

Army doesn’t have any openings in their schedule until 2027. So regardless of what happens, it’ll be a long while before we play.

Given most home and homes are played in back-to-back years. And assuming that’s the second half of a home and home. I would guess they’re playing in 2032 and 2033.

Someone in our athletic department does not understand the relevance of the order in which you post the school names based on home/away. Baseball scores during the season were often backwards as well.

These were home games:

Post #1 updated with this new series announced. 2024 OOC is now complete and won’t have a single FCS game.

"The Monarchs have also tentatively completed their 2024 non-conference schedule with the addition of Bowling Green. Old Dominion is slated to open the season at South Carolina on Aug. 31 and will host back-to-back home contests against East Carolina on Sept. 7 and Virginia Tech on Sept. 14."

That is a nice ooc schedule with some chances for signature wins but why wait until 2031 for the return game.

Also just noticed there is no FCS game in 2022 or 2023 either.

Correct. Moving forward looks like the OOC should look like this;

ECU
VT
P5 buy game
Winnable G5 H&H

2025 we still need 2 home games so we might end up with an fcs but there is still plenty of time to schedule 2 g5 home games.

I don't see the logic in not scheduling an FCS team. That should be a a guaranteed win, and with 2 P5s on our schedule most years, plus ECU, we need as many wins as we can get. If we start having a lot of 5 win seasons without an FCS win, and don't go bowling as a result, that will be a shame.

Outside of NSU and Hampton, it would cost us at minimum 250K plus to host an FCS team nowadays. The new regime probably sees it as a way to use that money to retain coaches by playing the G5 instead.

Ticket revenue for the game should be double that, and if the extra win means a bowl game it’s well worth it. I guess time will tell. I thought the payday (ie: likely losses) games were to shore up finances.

Its not like we'd be losing a home game. The ticket revenue will still be there. And probably more by playing a better team.

That’s all true, and I’ll probably enjoy the FBS game more anyway. But it seems like we are really risking a bowl game by choosing this route.

I'm not saying don't go to a bowl, but I think the appeal of many G5-vs.-G5 bowls for all but the conference champions is fading. Certainly for fans, who might not mind watching ODU vs. Kent State or Troy or Wyoming on TV in late December but aren't going to traipse out to Florida or California for the privilege. I'd rather bring a good opponent to Norfolk than load the dice a bit for a mediocre opponent in a mediocre bowl.
