ODU is done for the fall

Any possibility that ODU will play a game or more this Fall. Things are changing with the BigTen, the MAC has a meeting today, and we/UMass heard today we are going to play an abbreviated schedule with no fans in the stadium.

Highly doubt it but hope I’m wrong. CUSA, Sun Belt, ACC, Big 12 and SEC schedules are set. MAC, Big Ten and MWC aren’t playing OOC. So that would just leave us with potential dates against UMass and maybe taking the place of schools that have to cancel because of the virus.

They have not practiced in pads, they are just running drills and there would be virtually no teams to play except UMass and New Mexico State. We could not afford to pay FCS to come play, and MAC and Big 10 will just play in-conference games. ODU jumped the gun early and will just have to deal with the consequences, good or bad.

Does UMass have a potential schedule or some opponents lined up? I can’t imagine they would announce they are playing without at least something in mind.

All opponents, game dates and sites for the 2020 season will be announced as they are confirmed and will be scheduled based on the ability to meet campus and state regulations.

Know we've been in communications with UConn regarding a spring game. But untill signed contracts/confirmed, then they will be released. There will be no fans at McGuirk during home games. Wonder if the weather is very bad, if they will play in the IPF bubble.

ODU is, by choice, on the sideline this season. At this juncture, what would be the point. The die has been cast. Got to live with it now. Hindsight is always 20/20 from the cheap seats. Not that I agree with the decision ODU made, but at this point what difference does it make -- train has left the station and ODU is not on it.

Glad we're keeping the FCS teams pretty local. Will be glad to have the Pirates back on this side of the water.

I love when Hampton comes through the tunnel. Good times!

It is. And FWIW, I always enjoyed going to their campus as well. HU fans were always hospitable and I liked their campus and the short drive over.

IMO Hampton or NS need to be on our schedule most all years.

Saw on the conference board WKU (I think) scheduled to play at Navy this fall. All I ever hear is how hard Navy and/or Army are to schedule and every year I see one of them playing a CUSA school. I get it might take a while, buy why haven't we scheduled one of them?

FWIW, find it interesting that the week after ODU plays at Wake on September 3, Wake hosts Norfolk State.

I also think we should play Liberty every year on rivalry weekend. You know, Alabama v. Auburn, Georgia v. Georgia Tech, Clemson v. South Carolina. This way we would have a legit FBS rival. We can't be a true rival to VT, just a pain in its side that it must deal with every few years. I'm ok with that!

We need a better rival than Liberty. I sure don't get jazzed about playing Liberty.
