Interesting. I hope it comes to be.

Fantastic. It’s a win, win, win, win for ODU, EVMS, Sentara and Hampton Roads. Hope it happens.

If President Broderick can get this through, he'd leave a fantastic legacy with the school, and would give the next president a full cupboard to work with. Would be amazing for the schools, and the region.

RE: ODU Master Plan
Would this lead to a merger between ODU and EVMS? It doesn't sound like EVMS even knew this was going on.

But they did wind up paying money toward the study, as did ODU. This could be a great thing for all involved if it happens.

RE: ODU Master Plan
If Sentara gets fully behind this it will likely happen. They are trying to Carillion Healthcare out of the region. The biggest stumbling block are the $ both at State level, ODU would have more risks because for costs of facilities etc, and from Sentara to make this happen. This would be a huge benefit to the region and give ODU the opportunity to more effectively compete for federal research grants in the Health / Medicine domain.

My thinking immediately goes to ODU students having greater access to post graduate programs and Med school. The ultimate hope being these people someday become big $$ donors to athlectic progrm.

RE: ODU Master Plan
My thoughts go to the fact that you generate all kinds of good will when you help provide quality medical care to the community. I know quite a few folks who think much more highly of VCU after being treated at (former) MCV in the last few years. It raises the rep of the whole school. EVMS being associated with ODU, as a Tier 1, National Research university will help them as well. It really is a no-brainer, win/win as I see it. Which means since politics are involved its probably unlikely.

I don't quite understand when on one hand, you imply VCU was able to do it, i.e. get past the "politics" and eventually merge with MCV, but in ODU's case, as with Hampton Roads area, "politics" might do us in. Please enlighten me. I realize you are highly in favor of it, but we can't fathom nor accept any negative energies coming to bear. I say, move right on Monarch Nation, it can be done!

Basically my point is two-fold. 1. I never trust politicians to do the smart thing. 2. I especially never trust the politicians in Richmond to do anything smart that would benefit Hampton Roads. I hope it happens. Maybe it will.

I can't read the article due to paywall.
Is this more or less what's discussed?

https://www.baconsrebellion.com/wp/the-s...pton-road/

I've mentioned a few times in the past, if EVMS doesn't want to merge with ODU, likely due to wanting to be with William and Mary instead, Sentara would be a good or better partner. ODUs campus in VA beach is close and the newish med programs over there are located near Sentara facilities.

Most of the facts quoted from The Pilot article are. The slant isn't. The dude that wrote that piece clearly has an agenda that is not in the best interest of ODU or South Hampton Roads.

Wow, the slant on the "Bacons" article really is annoying. You'd think the guy must be a WM or HU grad the way he loves on them. Or maybe he got rejected by ODU. In any case, there are a few things of interest. He seems to imply Sentara may be the one behind all this. If so, I think that bodes well for ODU and Hampton Roads. 2. He points out rankings and especially graduation rates are rationale for why ODU is a bad choice. To me this shows the importance of those perceptions. However, hilariously, he doesnt seem to understand the rankings at all because he thinks at 217 HU is ranked "far higher" than ODU at 250 something. Which is actually minuscule. Regardless, ODU needs to improve, and especially improve its 4 and 5 year grad rates. Even NSU is kicking our butt in that area, and it hurts.

My take away is if it is Sentara behind this, thats good. They probably get what they want, and if they want an EVMS/ODU/Sentara partnership (even if the reason is for more public money) thats a good thing for all three and the citizens of Hampton Roads.

RE: ODU Master Plan
This would be a good thing for all parties. EVMS gets more state support and qualifies for more federal grants. ODU and NSU can offers its’ students a clearer path to PA and Med school while also gaining more access to employment opportunities for its graduates. And Sentara gets better access to residents and PAs while creating new educational opportunities for its’ current staff.

It certainly doesn't hurt that Sentara's CFO is an ODU graduate. (Undergrad and MBA).

The Sentara participation is what makes this effort different from previous times this has been explored. That is a huge factor that could be the difference maker this time. What a great thing for all parties involved and the region if it happens.
