2023 top-100 Malia Samuels to USC. She visited campus a while back, but not sure how aggressively we were still recruiting her.

Another ranked 2023 we miss out on, this time Laila Hull (again, not 100% we were still actively recruiting her). Final 5 of Maryland, Marquette, UNC, DePaul, and Boston College.

It's usually going to be ESPN+ or CUSA TV. You're probably going to want to sign up for the CUSA package once the season begins (which is $10.95 a month).

Offer out to 2024 Jill Twiehaus (Oklahoma). Has also received an offer from BC. Is teammates with 2025 McKenzie Mathurin, who looks destined to be one of the top 2025s and I think is being recruited by Rice (at least at this early stage).

I might want to change, too- I must admit, not nearly as optimistic as I used to be.

Unfortunately, nowhere near as big a fan following as they deserve given the program's performance over the past 5+ years. I'm a season ticketholder living in Chicago, and try to make it down for at least 4 - 6 games per year.

I live in the DFW Metroplex, and I am 77 years old. I have not traveled to Houston for any sport since Covid hit, and likely will not again. But I catch their games every chance I get on broadcast. So I would say there is a large following that does not necessarily translate into attendance.

RE: [split] Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread 2021
Considering school size, our WBB attendance numbers aren't actually as bad compared to some other sports (at least from what's recorded on paper). In the last three years of Langley's tenure, we averaged roughly 900-1000 fans per game. While real attendance inevitably lags behind what's reported, that's the case for almost all programs. From a quick skim of NCAA attendance numbers, I'd say attendance averages for conferences similar to CUSA are somewhere between 800-1,000. When you go up to the Americans, A10s, Mountain Wests, etc., the number rises to something like 1,500-1,750. And then at the high-major level, somewhere around 3,000-4,000.

Attendance last year dropped considerably, for obvious reasons. Less success, new coach, new players, etc. But if we can return to our winning ways, I imagine the number will creep back up to near 1,000. And we can draw decent crowds for good games. A few years back we got something like 1,800 (and a good 1,800) for a home game against #5 Texas A&M.

So don't expect a South Carolina-type environment. But if (once, hopefully) we start winning, there should be some decent crowds. That said, once we join the American, the comparison changes and we'll need to step up our game.

I also want to add that when the team played at the Texas A&M regional for the NCAA tournament a few years ago, we also travelled a pretty decent sized contingent to College Station. I'd say relatively speaking the WBB team has a bigger fanbase than most of the other sports at Rice save for baseball. MBB would do better if they manage to keep improving.

Both were on campus this week.

Coaches teasing a commit on Twitter.

In separate (or related) news, looks like 2025 McKenzie Mathurin was on campus for an unofficial visit. Seems like she planned well because Harden was also on campus, assumedly visiting with Pera. She already has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, and Oklahoma (and a bunch of other schools). Expected to be a big time prospect. Looks like she visited alongside Jill Twiehaus, a 2024 who we recently offered. Twiehaus has offers from SMU and BC, among others.
