New offer out to Emirson Devenie of Australia (now playing in Canada). She's a 6-1 guard with a bunch of other offers (not high level ones). I've seen her listed as Class of 2021 on some listings, but I think she's now considered a Class of 2022 recruit. But if she could somehow reclassify as a 2021 recruit, I think she can help the team now and I say bring her aboard.

Her twitter profile says Class of '22.

Jaquez commits to UCLA which isn't too surprising. California through and through and follows in her brother's footsteps. A real bummer because she would've been dynamite scoring the ball in CUSA.

Well they’ve shown a bigger commitment to basketball than Rice ever has.

McLeod was offered by Grand Canyon 8 months ago, by Rice 2 months ago. Pretty sure that's the reason for the decision.

After much prayer, consideration, and with the support of my family, I have reopened my recruitment.

She has recently been offered by Oklahoma and Marquette.

Keeping 2/4 recruits in this day and age isn't actually all too bad. A shame that both will end up playing power conference ball, but nothing you can really do with a coaching change.

Brown commits to Vanderbilt.

She jumped from Rice to the Rice of the power conferences. But education + SEC + struggling program at which minutes might be available for a freshman is a good combo.

Women picked up a commitment, per Twitter chatter. Don't know who, though.

Still no news about this which makes me lean transfer over recruit. I can't recall a time when a coach announced an addition who was a HS recruit and there wasn't news within a couple days (because it's basically just an announcement on social media). Delay makes me think paperwork prior to announcement. Of course now that I write that it's definitely going to be a high schooler.

Madison Cockrell, who the staff was really after during tournament play, committed to UTSA. Still no news about the player that Grant and Edmonds' husband tweeted about two weeks ago.

(reminder that the semester starts soon and we don't have a backup PG to Jackson or a backup Post)

New addition to the roster - Robin Whitehead, 5-8 guard from Atascocita. She looks pretty good on tape - had some injuries which set her back a bit her senior year but she finished very strong in the playoffs (including scoring 30 in one playoff game).

Looks like the staff hosted 2023 Layla Conley and 2023 Zanai Barnett this weekend. We've offered Conley (she also has offers from a few of the smaller Texas schools). Don't really know anything about Barnett.

Same for Laci Steele, also a 2023 whom we've offered.

Add 2023 PG Malia Samuels to the list of visitors this past weekend. Ranked #45 in ESPN's 2023 Super 60. Has taken unofficial visits to Washington State and Cal and has a bunch of other high-major programs interested.

Ton of talent in Texas this past weekend for John Lucas's elite camp, which is why so many unofficial visitors. Other players we're recruiting who were also there: Kymora Johnson (2023 #33), Reychel Douglas (2023 #49), Gisella Maul (2023 #51), Laci Steele (2023 top ranked OK prep player), Mary Carter (2023), Jadyn Atchison (2023).

I mentioned Barnett a couple posts up because she was actually on campus. The above (outside of Steele) were at the camp but didn't make it to campus.

RE: [split] Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread 2021
A recruit who I admittedly didn't even know we were targeting has announced her top 6 and Rice is on it. Elle Ladine, a 2022 G who's ranked #75 by ESPN. Rice makes the final 6 along with USC, Iowa State, Cal, Colorado, and Washington. Obviously would be a massive commitment, however likely or unlikely. You could probably guess but she's from California, which explains the Pac-12 heavy list. It's typically pretty difficult to pry west coasters from the west coast. Though I'd hope it'd be easier to sell her on Houston than Ames, Iowa.

And some fun notes! This means that Grant is recruiting against his wife (USC) and that as a program we're up against Langley, King, Alejandro, and co.

Per this article, her rise came from seemingly nowhere. https://almanacnews.com/news/2021/08/18/...the-making
