RE: Head Coach Power Rankings
People will laugh, but Chad Lunsford is really missing Tyler Bass at kicker.
Games where his kicking made the difference, just off the top of my head.
2018 Texas State
2018 Eastern Michigan (bowl game)
2019 Coastal Carolina
2019 South Alabama
2019 App State
In all of those games the number of points Bass was responsible for were at least as big as the scoring margin, and all of them but 2019 App he made multiple field goals.
Contrast that with this season...if we have Bass Coastal is our only loss, I'm 90% sure of that. Of course, you can't have a near-pro-bowl level kicker every year and we've got to do a good bit better on offense than we have done for Lunsford to keep his job. Even though I think some of our fans are being overly dramatic, it's hard for me to put Lunsford #3 in the conference right now.

He did some good things despite having one of the youngest FBS roster since 2018 (granted, Elliott brought that upon himself for stubbornly wanting to recruit/develop high school kids over taking JUCO transfers like Miles.) However, it's time to "put up or shut up" IMO. With exception for the freshman QB, Elliott's roster is now filled out with upper-classmen. The expectation is 6+ wins every year.
this will pay dividends long after Ellliott is gone, whether he gets fired or takes a bigger job.
You plug gaps with Juco transfers. You build programs by starting and maintaining relationships with high schools.
Frankly, i'm glad Elliott didn't get the App job, but this was absolutely the right call if you want a real, established program at Ga State.
Yeah.
Just saying his 21-25 HC record isn't so bad considering the total rebuild under his tenure.
Shawn only had one truly bad year in 2018. Take away 2018 (the complete rebuild year with ~70 scholarship freshmen/sophomores,) Elliott went 19-15. Not great, but not terrible either.
This year where many of CSE's guys are now juniors, we had 3 close losses. We arguably could've gone 8-1 this season if we had a veteran QB like Ellington instead of a freshman QB who made some really dumb decisions.
Another reason why im bit more lenient of CSE is that I'm a big believer of building a football team around your OL/DL. CSE produced in those areas. We have one the best OL and DL position groups in the conference.
Now if CSE cant produce convincing results next two years with a group of HIS veteran starters, then that warrants a different conversation absolutely imo.

I agree, CSE's record has been pretty average so far. I'm with ya there.
But I disagree with completely railroading CSE as a lame duck coach.
I mean in 2017 yes, CSE went 7-5 with Miles' players. The very same players that went 2-8 in 2016 under Miles...and 9-38 overall. Not sure that's a case against CSE necessarily.

Honestly, ill take the 6wins and bowl games as a sign of success (if we can do it consistently.) It means we're doing more things right than wrong on the field compared to the majority of other FBS programs.
I mean.. other FBS coaches and players aren't dumb. Everyone works hard. Everyone wake up every day to get better. Every school has the resources and talents to compete. This aint the FCS or D2.

I am not sure of what your trying g to say in your second paragraph. But I can promise you that I'd GSU Leadership perceives that fans are ok with 6-6 or 7-5 and a bowl every year they will grasp that low hanging fruit like its gold.
