Just something about a big game with Marshall that brings out the best in Rice. I hope Rice can find a way to win more consistently and make this game one of C-USA’s inter-divisional rivalries.

Then you'll need to hope USM beats FAU or you'll actually finish 2nd.

If we finish 4-1 and FAU ends up 5-1 but we have the tie breaker what happens?

Well don't tie-breakers only come into play when teams are tied? Unless I'm missing something, 5-1 trumps 4-1.

This is not going unnoticed at The Parliament. Wish the quadruple-doink might have fallen good and Rice-Marshall might be playing again. Good luck in the championship game and your bowl game.

Yea! That was pretty startling at the beginning of the game:

The TV folks got it straightened out in a little while, fortunately.

They also kept showing 4th and 10 in the first half when it wasn't 4th and 10.

Yes, you’re missing something. Conference said two teams with same number of losses and one win difference are considered tied.

So, theoretically, a team with a 2-1 record would be tied with a team that has a 6-1 record?

No because they wouldn't have a one-win difference.

For all the Doc apologists this should silence any thoughts of a contract extension and as I said earlier if any of the senior o-line leaves after graduation this is a sample of what next year will look like.

If anyone is wondering, the last time Rice beat a ranked opponent was 1997, in Houston over BYU. This was our second year in the WAC, and Ken Hatfield was head coach.

Hatfield had some big wins at Rice. I still remember when ya'll beat Texas in the mid 90's. I think it was 1994. I remember watching it on TV.

Good memory. It was 1994 and it was played on a SUNDAY night rescheduled from Saturday due to a hurricane (which was still coming down pretty good at Rice Stadium that Sunday night).

Because of that quirk of scheduling, we had been one of the top teams receiving votes in the poll and should have subsequently been ranked after beating Texas. But most poll voters had already sent in their ballots that week.

The next Saturday we lost to top ten Texas A&M (but only 7-0) but nobody enters the top 25 on a loss.

That is the closest we’ve come in my lifetime to being ranked.

(And I’m old enough to remember the Marshall plane crash)
