UAB & CUSA Hoops This season
I know we're very early in the season, but has anyone checked KenPom lately? Andy Kennedy, in his first season, has the squad at #103 (up from preseason #115), which is the highest ranking since Mike Davis' 2011 squad that finished #65.

Almost as exciting is that the conference as a whole looks to be more exciting this year. CUSA is the 12th best conference according to KenPom, with a +89 rating, which would be the best ranking and rating since the 2013 season. The top of the conference is really strong with WKY, Marshall, UAB, ODU, UNT, and La Tech all being in the top 3rd of D1 basketball (top 119 out of 357).

Now we just need Charlotte & UTEP to pull their heads out of their butts and be the basketball teams they're supposed to be and we'll have a really good conference top to bottom.

I shouldn’t look ahead but the highest ranked team on our current schedule is Georgia Tech at 89. They are 0-2 after losing both home games to start the season. Mercer beat them by 10, and led the entire game after the first two minutes. Georgia State beat them in four overtimes! Georgia Tech was favored in both games.

They could potentially lose three more games before they come to The Bart.

What about the top ranked WKU and Marshall in C-USA? Neither team are on our current schedule.

WKU is legit. I think our best player is Quan Jackson, but he would probably be the 4th or 5th best player on that WKU team.

Georgia Tech is a mess and I wouldn't be surprised if they leave Pastner stranded in Birmingham after the beatdown they're about to get. This was supposed to be his year with a ton of returning upper classmen but they're looking at an 8-10 win season.
