I’m watching you Lopes...

It's the only time PP. I was waiting for ACU to beat NMSU and was ready to hear about why hasn't GCU beat NMSU...

Ha! The Aggies looked horrendous. Super rusty and unorganized. Jans is gonna rip them a new one. I can’t believe we almost lost and were losing with about 2 minutes to go.

The Aggie team started out playing too fast. Committed a lot of turnovers early on. What also hurt was Gilyard got into foul trouble early in the second half. It threw the offensive even more out of sync. NMSU was tested tonight.

It looks like NMSU had a chance to play with Seattle in Vegas over the weekend but Air Force and the other school didn't want to play NMSU haha

After watching NMSU on Monday, I would think any team would want to play them. I could get a team together of old school friends, neighbors and my dad (71 years old and played at NM Highlands) and take on the Aggies.

Good God... step away from the cliff! It's one game, early. You guys will curb stomp the conference and go to the dance. Don't worry.

I have to admit that 5'8 blur of a point guard at Arizona Christian (Angelo Johnson) made swiss cheese of NMSU's defense. We had no one who could stay in front of him without fouling. Gilyard is very quick and he still couldn't corral him. If there was a day when we needed AJ Harris, it would have been last Sunday. I'm not sure NMSU will see another point guard that quick the rest of the season. Otherwise, I was very pleased with the performances of Jabari Rice and Clayton Henry. Both our starting big men were solid but there is still a lot of room for improvement. Tonight Benedictine will be a gauge to see how far we are behind GCU in our development. GCU demolished Benedictine by 31 last Saturday.

BenU will put up 3s on the Aggies tonight and might hang around for a while if they're falling (as they did with GCU), but should be a much less competitive night than what ACU gave you guys. Easily a 20 point win for NMSU, but probably by much more.

NMSU picked up a game against Arizona. Our Aggies must have looked vulnerable enough to invite them to Tucson.

Although the Aggies would have lost that 2019 Arizona game regardless, keep in mind, NMSU did not have starters AJ Harris and Clayton Henry available due to injury; nor did they have Wilfried Likayi (injured) nor Evan Gilyard (ineligible). Additionally, two other Aggie starters were hobbled but played that day; Ivan Aurrecoechea and Terrell Brown. With our full compliment of "healthy" players, the score that day would have been much closer.

Arizona isn't as strong as they were last year. They had 3 players drafted this year, 2 in the first round.

Does Southland qualify as "better"? 40+ pages in the other thread and it's still not clear.

But anyway, UTRGV over TAMUCC 62-59.

My vote is no. Although Stephen F Austin is usually quite good and they had a tournament run a few years back. And apparently Abilene Christian is off to a hot 4-0 start. I keep an eye on them since they were one of 3 other Division 2 move-ups when GCU joined the WAC. Others were Nebraska Omaha and Incarnate Word. Even though it’s not apples to apples I sometimes think of them as at least a minor comparison. Gauge how we are doing versus how far they’ve come etc.

GCU’s win over a solid Nevada squad out of the Mountain West makes this list. Hoping we see more and more WAC teams racking up impressive wins and showing the building strength of the conference.

BTW, the win pushed GCU into the positive side on the KenPom rankings this morning.

Ok. I will say this: Watched this game on the big screen last night, and GCU is the best all-around WAC team I've seen play so far. Their size and bench/depth are gonna be a real problem in conference play. Tarleton hosts GCU to kick it off, and I can tell you right now we don't have an answer for their size and athleticism in the paint.

Arizona didn't want to take a chance NMSU wouldn't be able to play the game so they proactively cancelled the game and replaced it with a game against UTEP. NMSU is in limbo right now.
