7 players did not play against UMass today (LB Anthony Butler, RB Shedro Louis, WR CJ Yarbrough, CB Jimmy Faulks, DB Deon Biggins, S Tim Kidd-Glass, and OL Brendan Schlittler). Really hope they are healthy for this huge game next week. It could make the difference.

I dont feel l'm knocking Liberty accomplishment this season, by highlighting the Sun Belt aint as soft as you want us to believe, if you know what im saying. Iowa State is the only impressive win, with Kansas State being solid but I would expect more from a 10-team conference with up to 4 non-conference games. Arkansas State being Kansas State and has since crapped the bed the rest of the year.

Am I missing something? Just going by percentages, the Sun Belt is 9-14 against FBS competition with a 4-5 record against C-USA. That doesn't scream good, or even so-so, thus the "pillow soft" comment. Maybe I'm exaggerating some but I don't think there is a credible argument that the conference has had a great non-conference year.

I think the Louisiana fan has a point, the SBC isn’t nearly as weak this year. I’d actually say they are are a solid 3rd in the G5 with a real argument they should be 2nd. That being said, I’m not sold on CCU. We will find out if they are for real this year but I think our record is more impressive. The first few games we were getting our footing, probably the same for them. We have three games against ACC opponents and have won two. Our only loss on the season was a 1 point road loss to a 7-3 NCSU. For CCU, they handled a really bad Kansas squad (won by 15). That same team is 0-8 with the CCU game being the closest game. Compare the Syracuse game for us, they are 1-9 with a win over GT and two 1 possession games. I think the Cuse is a much better team. Overall I think we are better. Their QB does worry me because he can ball. Overall I see us winning and I’m super pessimistic by nature (hopefully that doesn’t jinx us).

Tale of the tape:

Liberty has one more win in FBS than Coastal Carolina while having one less season. In addition, Liberty has one more bowl appearance (compared to zero), while winning it. Both having finished ranked by the AP (yet) and neither have conference championships, though it is an unfair knock against LU since we aren't in a conference; to be fair, we likely wouldn't have won one last year, though we could definitely be in contention or win many G5 conferences this year as they are in contention and are favored to win the Sun Belt.

Overall, I would say we've had a greater FBS history than CCU thus far, though it is a very small sample size. Prior to this year, I would have said Coastal Carolina was a failure in FBS thus far, but again, small sample size. Anything can happen from here on out (Freeze leaves and we hire a dud while they hire Saban, Jr.). I would really like to see the attendance numbers for this year if we could have full capacities. It's a pretty even match up based on our histories, though we are more accomplished in FBS.
