Not sure if we have 3 starters in the NFL on defense probably more like one but I get your point.

Fired from JMU, then back to D-III John Carroll U. as DC. Five years later, he's a head coach in the NFL. Quite the career trajectory!
Went back and looked at the 2014 roster. Notable defensive players:
DL:
-Sage Harold: 1st team All CAA, UDFA Redskins.
-Andrew Ankrah: Future consensus AA DE, UDFA Redskins.
-Simeyon Robinson: future 1st team ALL CAA DT, UDFA Bengals.
-Alex Mosely: future All CAA DE.

LB:
-Gage Steele: past & future All CAA LB.
-Kyre Hawkins: future 1st team All CAA/AA LB.
-Brandon Hereford: future All CAA LB.

Secondary:
-Dean Marlowe: starting S this season Bills.
-Raven Greene: starting S this season Packers (season ending injury).
-Jimmy Moreland: starting CB this season Redskins.
-Jordan Brown: future AA S.
-Taylor Reynolds: 3x All CAA, future AA CB.

So you have a former JMU DC that coached a defense with 3 future NFL starters, more talent than probably every team JMU faced that season sans MD, that underperformed, got fired, yet 7 years later gets hired as an NFL HC. Good for him. Only in America.

Do we know for certain that Staley was let go?
I had thought that HE decided to leave. In any case, installing a new defense certainly didn't help his results that year, especially with the amount of youngsters that got playing time. And I'd bet my last dollar that Withers interfered with what Staley wanted to do.

Who would voluntarily leave D1 for D3?

Yup- they've got Stinnie, Watford, and Josh Wells.

Madia talks to Ron'Dell Carter about his season in the NFL.

https://www.dnronline.com/sports/carter-...7a832.html

Carter had apparently favorably impressed his line coach, Jim Tomsula, and his special teams coach, John Fassel. Tomsula has since been fired and Fassel interviewed for coaching slots. A person who knows more than me about Dan Quinn's coaching style will have to gauge whether the changes in the Cowboys defense means Carter has a shot at sticking around.

Nice story. He’s a great young man, and his future looks bright.

Looks like we'll have 3 players in the Super Bowl and I would imagine one of them starting. Stinnie did get bull rushed on one play early on today that got Brady sacked and ended a drive, but overall it seems he's doing really well. We'll see if Marlowe can make it also.

That was the JMU representation as of Sunday before the games. Marlowe's Bills are out, so from a purely JMU perspective we should be rooting for TB as at least two of our guys would get rings. I don't know if KC ever signed Marcus Marshall this year; I know they brought him in for a tryout in September, but not sure if a practice squad deal came as a result.

Holy crap. I don’t know what I am thinking sometimes. Yes, KC is in the final not the Bills.

RE: #ProDukes
Stinnie could join a relatively small "club" (at least percentage wise) of NFL guys who won both a Super Bowl and a national championship during their collegiate careers. Of course, there are many hundreds of guys who can say this I suppose (not going to look it up) over the past 100 years, but still something he can one day tell his kids and grandkids if the Bucs can get the win. Compared to the many many thousands of collegiate football players (millions?) and a smaller subset who went on to play professional ball, the percentage who can make that claim has to be very small.
