Should have never been "on".

RE: Future MBB Schedule
A blessing in disguise - sorry for the play on words- but may get us part of the way to where most fans want us to be in terms of schedule if they are able to pull a rabbit out of their hat and get a D1 opponent to fill that spot. Keep in mind before the season was pushed up and the OOC was impacted Byingtons first season had a home game vs Uva and road games at Georgia Tech and Florida. That’s 2 Acc and 1 Sec school when in recent years JMU often went a season without playing any Power conference teams. I’m bullish on Coach Bs scheduling moving past this it’s just this year that has been and will be challenging.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
Yes, this is addition by subtraction. There was nothing to gain by playing Lancaster anyway. Now JMU has 2 open OOC games and if a regional ACC, Big 10, Big East, SEC, or A-10 school loses an opponent last minute due to COVID, JMU needs to be ready to hop on the bus.

What JMU has not been able to do by planning and negotiation, maybe they can do by pure luck.
Elon already has Duke and UNC on their schedule. How great would it be if JMU could get UVA and Va Tech added to their schedule due to cancellations? Or even take Elon’s games and play both UNC and Duke.

At least we are in the game Right now with basketball. The football team had to stand on the sideline and watch other teams take all of their opportunities to compete.

Chattanooga also had a game fall through on the 25th. Hopefully we can work with them to add a game.

EDIT: Nevermind. I didn't realize Limestone University was a real school that is really on our schedule.

Looks like Coach B was determined to play a D3 school to start the season.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
I think he is scared that his squad is not ready to play D-1 competition Friday and wants some type of game Wednesday to get first game bonehead mistakes and jitters out of their system.

It is disappointing, deja vu. Why not get a team to play a closed scrimmage with refs and save the real game for a good opponent that may become available later due to COVID quarantine? Have scrimmages and exhibitions been banned?

Seems like a complete waste with nothing to gain vs Limestone. The NCAA NET ratings don’t even recognize “games” against DII or DIII teams in its calculations. But the 27 game cap for this season does count the game vs Limestone.

We still have one open game to capitalize on a scheduling opening. Would have been twice as nice to have 2 open games in the current COVID environment. There are current opportunities and there will be more as we have seen happen in football.

To answer your question about a month ago the USA today printed this:
In addition to the start date, the NCAA council voted to halt recruiting visits through the calendar year, ban interprogram scrimmages and exhibitions and allow for 12-hour practice weeks for teams starting Sept. 21. Teams can begin practicing in full on Oct. 14 The maximum number of allowed games has been decreased from 31 to 27, while the minimum number of games will be 13.

Tennessee just paused all MBB b/c of positive tests. Delaware is hoping to end quarantine and get back to practice on Wednesday.

What's the point going on about NCAA NET ratings when the season is already on thin ice? Wouldn't surprise me if more schools don't cancel last minute and the other team is left scrambling to find a any warm body to play.

Along the same lines of what you're saying, I wonder if we can dump Carolina U. and pick up a different school as the problems of scheduling for everyone around COVID grow with each passing day?

Article from earlier today from Mettlen explaining how the game came together

RE: Future MBB Schedule
Seems like Carolina University would be an easy dump if the University of North Carolina suddenly became available. With public attendance eliminated right now, who cares if the game is home or away. A game against a power conference team can do wonders for this team and help establish where their biggest weaknesses are and, of course, the chance for a huge upset.

Let’s cross our fingers and hope Bourne and the coaches responsible for scheduling are able to capitalize when the opportunities present themselves over the next 4 weeks. Small window, big opportunity.

Per GTS, threads older than 3 years need split into new threads and the old thread must be archived. I started with this one as practice... NJDuke97 you are now the owner of this thread. If you wouldn't mind updating the "original post" from time to time that could help. If you wish to not have that responsibility let me know and we'll split again.

Will do. In terms of the one open game left for the Dukes to schedule when you view their current slate I believe it would have to be between 11/29 and 12/7, mid week the week of December 13th, or the last week of December. There are some big schools looking for games on 12/4 or 12/5 (Louisville and Notre Dame). Ideally the Dukes would nab a game on one of those days and save the week between Christmas and New Years as a buffer to make up any OOC games that may be canceled due to Covid.

Byington mentioned pretty clearly that they would be adding a game for late this week before the ODU game. He said they were looking to add a game or two.

Could JMU add more than one more to the OOC if they wanted to? I wasn’t sure what the max is this year.

Max is 27, and we have 26 now.

RE: Future MBB Schedule (2020+)
The game vs Carolina U (non D1) for 12/9 was postponed by Carolina U. This now means that we have 2 open spots. Praying that we fill them with 2 D1 opponents. This team can handle it- one mid major and one P5. Let’s get it done!
