A unique schedule, for sure. But, back to backs may be good for CAAT endurance. We'll see. I am a MBB pre-season optimist. I think we will be an improved team.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
Will be interesting to see how fan attendance will be determined. Up to school, or location - or for competitive reasons everyone will have the same restrictions?

I could see concerns if UNCW allows 50%, JMU allows 500, and UD allows no one. (just an example). If JMU caps attendance at 10% they would still have more fans than some men's games last year. 03-drunk

Right now 2/27/2021 looks like a good doubleheader of Robert Morris at JMU in the football opener followed by Drexel at JMU in men’s hoops.

CofC is allowing 30%. That’s 1,530 fans. UNCW and Elon will be very small crowds if any at all. Governor Cooper in NC is only allowing 7% capacity in outdoor stadiums, let alone indoor. Nothing has been done for indoor.

The schools north of DC might not have any fans at all.

Between now and January is a long time in the Covid-19 era.

The numbers will go up, or down based on the fall spread and stats. The biggest certainty is the numbers will change between now and January. They will likely even change mid season.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
Fwiw I was speaking with a Fordham booster today and he indicated that they will likely travel to JMU as part of the 2021 OOC due to travel restrictions this season. I believe this was an OOC game originally slated for late in the OOC schedule that technically could have been played this year based on the start date of the season.

MBB OOC announcement - first 3 at home 2 as a pod event with Radford and Norfolk State then hosting ODU. Play Mason in Richmond and then at Ecu and at Florida. Sounds like they are trying to add others.

Uva won’t be played this year because it pre dated the start of the season which was pushed up. Probably best to save that game for a normal
Year when you can have a full house at the new arena hopefully next year.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
As we approach the Men’s Hoops season, JMU still has one more OOC game they can schedule before hitting the Max of 27 total games. UVA has to be in the mix still.
The women’s team has already agreed to play at UVA this year and then host UVA next year to maximize revenue at the AUBC.

Will the men follow suit once UVA sets a few more dates in their OOC? The Cavaliers only have 4 OOC games right now and JMU can be plugged in anywhere since the game can be played any night of the week with only an hour drive and no overnight hotel needed during COVID.

Strangely, JMU is still playing at Florida which seems to be a change in thinking from the administration. The attempts at scheduling for Football were explained by Bourne to be only within reasonable driving distance due to COVID concerns. The furthest team contacted was Army which is over a 6 hour drive from the Burg.
Gainesville is much further. Is the guarantee pay day too much to turn down now that Alger pulled the plug on the Football season and the $500k UNC game? At most Florida will pay $100k for a hoops home game even in a full attendance non-COVID year.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
The door for the UVA men’s game is now closed. UVA Recently signed 3 more games to complete their OOC schedule at 7 games on top of the 20 ACC games.
Who did they contract to play in Charlottesville?
St Francis
William & Mary
Kent State

I wonder if the negotiations for men’s and women’s games are done by the same administrators. Somehow the women were able to reschedule and play at UVA this year then host next year, but the men cannot get rescheduled this year at all and host next year. It would be interesting to know the sticking point for the men as opposed to what greased the skids for the women.
Of course UVA is the defending men’s champ and likely will start the season in the top 5 National ranking.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
I think @ Florida was a one time game that was likely going to go away if they didn’t play it this season. It’s a far trip in this environment but they want to recruit in Florida and the Gators are considered by some to be a top 10 team. I think with Virginia there is more of a relationship and agreement in place in terms of scheduling and the goal was to have them play in the new arena so it’s best to have that happen when JMU can have a full house. The women are more on par with UVA so playing them on the road this season is just another challenging OOC game. For the JMU men I think it’s smart to hold off- and UVA may have wanted to as well. Save that game for a home contest when things open up.

Try to play other schools at home neutral and road to fill the schedule. They have 3 home vs D1, 2 road vs D1, and 1 neutral vs D1. Would like to see one more home and one more road or neutral. Would likely need to be between 12/12-12/19 or 12/22 and 1/2.

I wonder if some games may open up for JMU as a result of Covid cases within other programs. For example Iona just announced a shut down and cancelled their first four games due to Covid.

Going to be a fluid season in terms of scheduling games played etc.

Indeed, which means the close in state games should be a priority for all to eliminate overnight stays, eating in public settings etc.
I don’t like how W&M got a last minute game at UVA and JMU couldn’t negotiate a game and rework the contract that was already in place. Ladies yes, Men no.
Of course, W&M has an interim AD after firing Huge yet snookered us for what is a primo game at UVA. Lots o’ attention on UVA this year as defending champs and having the stud transfer from Marquette. I see they are picked ahead of Duke, UNC and everyone else in the ACC. That doesn’t happen much

We seem to have added a game against Carolina! No lie. The one from Winston-Salem.

Only way JMU gets UVA is on 1-16 NCAA tourney game. Joey Brackets has NE versus UVA in that game currently.

Not a good barometer of the current state of CAA basketball.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
Well, since UVA has filled their OOC schedule, JMU would now be wise to leave their one remaining game OPEN. Maybe we can back into a game against UVA, UNC, or Duke when their opponent has a last minute COVID cancellation.

Keep the bus fueled up, have a driver on standby, keep the red phone at your bedside, and be ready to travel anywhere in the region with 24 hour notice.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
I agree with the let’s stay ready and flexible scheduling philosophy for basketball this season. We’re practicing and soon to be playing games (knock on wood) and in D1 hoops with 13 D1 guys (many of whom could physically match up with guys across the country) a squad like JMU isn’t at a disadvantage physically if they have to quickly pivot and play an Acc team on short notice. Odds are we would be a long shot to win that game but I don’t think the short turnaround or notice would impact our ability to compete and our chances of winning.

I disagree with that approach this year for football. Football was and is different and expecting JMU to be ready and hope to fill some games as others cancelled would not have gone well or been productive for the players or program. Football due to the physicality and game planning is meant to be planned for. The teams like Abilene Christian or even Umass who are picking up games on the fly just to get a little money are risking injury and embarrassment and have absolutely 0 shot of being competitive in those games.
