Otherwise, it’s a curious decision from what I can tell.

Not trying to belabor this, and I’m definitely not worked up about it, but is there really no apparent reason? It’s just “eh, we like to do it earlier”?

(forget who has left that conference with all realignment)

Ha, I was thinking the same thing. JMU could rule the old MEAC.
Byington said during the coaches caravan that he may have 2 or 3 premier matchups available. I guess those didn’t pan out, but the Michigan State game is outstanding. More of that please.

Does anyone know how much the Spartans are paying JMU? 80k? 90K? 100k?

Why are we doing this…just throw Bridgewater a bone and have Valley Fun Night at the AUBC. We need a policy that says if we schedule a DIII, it’s either Bridgewater or at least an ODAC school.
Great idea.

I haven't asked this of the ticket office or anybody who would know, but my guess is that it fits best for Athletics calendar. August is likely chaotic for delivering football tickets, then September all ticketing is in full swing, so July is probably the "easiest" in terms of the workload that the ticket office needs to handle for conducting two reseating opportunities for Mens and Womens hoops. The hoops season starting earlier and earlier (seemingly every year) also may have an effect. Football priority deadline is 3.5 months before the season starts, and basketball (while nobody is thinking about it in July) falls about in that same timeline.

I fully agree with you that buying a product before you know what you're buying sucks, and the only reason I'm doing it is because I'm local and can plan to go to 90% of the games regardless of who the opponent is.

Contacted the ticket office last week, and the person I spoke to indicated individual game tickets might not go on sale until October. Not sure the person really knew, but I hope they are put up for sale by sometime early September.

Preseason polls coming out and many have Michigan State in top 5

So, yea. That’ll be a big one for us

does this mean it's a lock for us to win Michigan State, open OOC at like 11-1, "the best start of a season since ever", go 500 in conference, get the #6 seed and get bounced in the first round of the tournament?

Not a lock, but I'm sure MSU is hating seeing us to open the season. 04-cheers

I think we're playing Keystone College on 12/3 so that's out of the question to be picked up. The 2/10 game is the MAC/SBC Challenge weekend so we'd need to be #1 in conference play at that point there. We also don't play on 2/22...So the only games that may get picked up are @App State on 1/27 and @Georgia Southern on 2/24.

Not sure where else to put this, not worthy of its own thread and related to MBB. More proof of just how much they cater to the big boys:

Strangely for the better mid majors this may actually help as most of the teams that we are talking about were already making it. The bottom 8-10 that were getting in may now be replaced by better mid majors.

Doesn't make it fair and I could see more of the smaller tourneys moving to home floors of #1 seed and even putting them directly in final to make it more likely that they make it to NCAA tourney.

They’re not doing this to help the midmajors.

Quote:Instead, the NIT will guarantee two teams (based on the NET rankings) from each of six conferences (Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and Southeastern).

I realize that, but those teams are already getting in or are just going to replace lower teams who got automatics. As far as home court goes just look at who had homecourt the last few years and it was the major schools no matter the record.

I think it is a bad idea and I would be furious if I was a fan of an MAAC, AEast, MEAC school but I don't know that it is really going to affect the winner of the Sun Belt if they don't win the conference tourney. If JMU goes 26-8 finishes first in regular season and loses in finals of SBC tourney we will get into the NIT.
