RE: GameDay: FB vs. CMU
To be fair, our offensive has turned the ball over alot this year with running back fumbles and interceptions that put our defense in the hole. Its not all on the defense especially the inability to run the football and chew up some clock.

yeah i mean i think the defense has looked pretty ok as a whole. they miss plays but besides the toledo game they havent been pantsed or anything. i think we as fans - and the coaches too - got spoiled having a series of REALLY good DEs.

Sheridan got a two year deal at IU first year $450k. CC makes $475 this year plus incentives.

Yeah, I assumed he did pretty well like most coordinators at Big Ten schools. I should have been more clear, I did mean he'd be a great candidate for us down the road, but I meant more the MAC/G5 in general I think he could be the next hot name. I assume like most coaches he has goals of coaching at a big time program or NFL so the next step for him would seem to be a taking over a MAC-type program.

I'd be interested to see how much CC makes if $475,000 is his base salary. I've seen things before about guys like Izzo and Harbaugh who make $5M+ but their base salary at their universities is around a $1M or so. The rest is all incentives and shoe deals or whatever.

he'll get hired by a lower P5 school like a Pitt or Vandy. Maybe ISU is campbell leaves.

Great point. I said a MAC or other group of 5 school. I forget schools like Pitt and Vandy are P5 schools. In my mind there are almost two levels within the P5, the "double" power 5 (if you will) are those Alabama, OSU, Oklahoma, Clemson, Notre Dame type of schools, and then the single power 5 are those Pitt and Vandy types.

I will always revere what Jim Harkema did at EMU, winning the only MAC Championship in school history and then going to the West Coast and winning the California Bowl where MAC teams were getting absolutely destroyed.

His last three years, however, were hardly noteworthy with just 5 wins in total. Who knows what happened? Was it all the turbulence from the nickname change or did he just lose the fire in his belly for coaching? He immediately went to work for a local realtor and never coached another football game. Strange.

Those were my college years Jerry! Remember in 1989 we started out the year 5-0-1, Bob Navaro either led the nation in interceptions, or led the country mid way through the season! We had one of the truly great CB in Charles Gordon, he played for a longtime for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL! That's why I've the nickname, we were really good at football, and basketball! Those years have never been duplicated in 3 decades!

If both guys were fired today I wouldn’t be heartbroken, although something tells me they’ll both be here for at least a couple more years. I want my alma mater to win a conference championship, and quite frankly we aren’t very close in either sport. That should necessitate change, especially when they’re in their 10th and 7th seasons with the school, respectively. But we are merely content with not being perennial bottom feeders.

Well said. They are basically the same coach.

Creighton is Murphy with different skin color and a PR team.

Nah. I feel that Creighton genuinely cares about his community and wants to do good things for people.

i think murphy saw this job as a stepping stone to bigger and better things (and there is NOTHING wrong with that) and it just hasnt worked out that way whereas i think CC is more likely to stick around and not jump at the first opportunity he gets (not that there would be anything wrong if he did)

I have been told by several people that CC and his family like the area very much
