While that's *closer* to the case for coaches................Bruce Pearl, Steve Forbes, and quite a few others in their 'class' might like to offer an alternative viewpoint on that.

Not sure what you are getting at, They won, because they won, they got forgiven, Forbes is in the ACC, Pearl is in the SEC.
You think a coach who got caught bending the rules at a losing program would make it back to the top? How many examples do you want of a coach breaking the rules to win, getting caught, getting a 2nd or 3rd or whatever chance. Look up North to Big Blue,
how many programs has John-Boy left to go on probation after he split?

Even if you run out of chances you get well paid for the winning you did.
And there is always another job for a successful coach no matter how disgraced he was.

RE: Official Game Thread: Middle Tennessee (W 57-43)
Coach Shay was on the radio this morning :

- When asked about the three games in Florida, Shay said that he had seen some improvement in the team over the three days, though he thought the efforts that he and his staff made to convince the team that they needed to take a veteran Abilene Christian team seriously hadn't been as successful as he had hoped. He said that the frequent substitutions that he made in that game were an attempt to "make a point" to the Bucs to take the game more seriously and to play tougher. He felt that the Bucs' "competitive spirit" was much better in the last two games. He thought that the willingness of the team to contest 50/50 balls in the MTSU game showed their willingness to play tougher.

-When asked about the Brewer brothers, Coach said that he felt that Ladarius played much more confidently in the second two games.

- When asked about Adheke's contributions, Shay said that he felt that he was the "anchor of the defense," communicating well with teammates. He felt that he needed to cut down on his fouls. He said that he felt that the team needed to get more points in the paint.

-When asked if the Bucs would be adding any games before their Dec. 8 meeting with UNC Asheville, Shay said that he was considering it, but would only take a game if he felt that it would really benefit the team. He didn't want to take a game just for the sake of filling a spot as he thought that practice could be just as beneficial. He said that a game might be added at the end of this week, but only if it was a good fit that he thought would help improve the team.

Thanks for the write up. Good job. Everyone remember that the coaches show is tonight at 6:00 from Wild Wing.

And there is always another job for a successful coach no matter how disgraced he was.

1a. They didn't get "forgiven" so much as they "paid their debt".
1b. "Bending"? Well, maybe some of them, but we likely don't hear about most of those. The bigger ones that get all the pub are the ones where rules were much more than "bent".
2. More importantly, we only know the most about the ones who 'came out the other side' successfully. The are those who didn't.
3a. While it's true that there are also many who were rewarded for winning-while-cheating, that doesn't mean they would condone doing it again. I would bet Steve Forbes wishes his infraction had never happened. That he's one of the ones who came out the other side is a testament to his ability at his job - meaning a coach can be successful and NOT cheat. (Other than 'cheating' athletes at ETSU out of opportunity, that is. But we don't need to go into that; just a tangent.)
3b. Extend my point above.... Those coaches who cheated and then came back to be very successful have been successful because they're *still* very good at what they do - minus the cheating.

Are you saying it's ok to cheat if you win? Or just that it's more important to win than to do it cleanly?

Not sure what kind of team Murray State has this year but Middle Tennessee beat them 78 - 61 tonight. Maybe MTSU isn't as bad as we thought.

We know the Racers must be pretty strong, because the night before, they crushed (did I say "crushed"? I meant "annihilated") Greenville College, a St. Louis-area Methodist DIII school across the river in IL, 173-95. No, that's not a typo or misprint.

I'm sure we've all seen the plethora of games against DIII teams - many of whom *I've* never heard of, and I'm usually pretty good on at least knowing *about* such colleges. It's just that hard to find games.

That appears to be the same 'Greenville' that mighty Samford beat 174-99. That was just before the Bulldogs lost at home to one of the worst teams in D1 in Alabama A&M, ranked 340 out of 357 in D1. https://samfordsports.com/sports/mens-ba...le/2020-21

Greenville has lost all 4 games that they've played.
174-99
138-97
173-95
177-108
http://athletics.greenville.edu/sports/m...1/schedule

There must be a clause in their contract that opponents are guaranteed to score at least 135 points. And Greenville gets a bonus if the opponent scores over 170. Could be the same contract that the Washington Generals sign.

According to Lucinda Williams, it seems like a nice enough place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDq80rYhO_w

And Doc Watson assures us that it has a memorable old trestle over the fishing spot on the river. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glNsBajzMvQ

But there must be a local rule against assuming a crouch with your hands up while on a basketball court. Bothering an opponent who is trying to shoot is just not sporting. And “passing up a good shot for a great shot” is considered just crazy talk.

Did our game against UNCA get pushed back to Tuesday? Wasn't it originally this coming Saturday?

It appears we had an agreement for GA Southern to play here this Saturday but it was cancelled after being "on" for just a few hours. Dang.

Seems like they'd rather play a winless USC Upstate that lost to a d2 school...
