He seems far from serious about the game of basketball...If he seemed to be serious and 100% in I would have no issues with him even with his poor start.

Kid has so much talent and I feel like he is not realizing it.

According to you he has all this talent. According to all the scouts he is the #52 recruit who is playing much better than that. According to me, he has 19 rebounds. Cisse, Dandridge and Thomas have 20 between them. He must be at least somewhat serious and making somewhat of an effort.

IF he makes 4 more easy shots instead of missing them, he is on track. That's all it is.

Hey it is my opinion...That is what we share on here...

I think he extremely talented...Without a doubt.

Maybe he has a strange demeanor but it definitely comes across as cavalier.

We evaluate him differently and that is OK

I get that and you're right, but is there something you're seeing in games or know about practices that the rest of us don't?

You've seen the quotes of Penny saying DJ is the best player on the team...

Don't be difficult.

I think Nolley is our best player

DJ has been nowhere to go but up and he is kindof weak. Maybe it's his injury, time will tell.

Lomax is horrible

Blah blah blah. Somebody is bad. Wah wah wah. We’re in the middle of a friggin global pandemic and there have been no scrimmages and limited practice. This team has talent and it is apparent that their only issue is lack of playing time with one another. Wait til mid season to gripe. Or gripe now. Whatever.

IF he makes 4 more easy shots instead of missing them, he is on track. That's all it is. As anyone who has ever had a serious knee or ankle injury knows, getting back your shooting stroke is possibly the most frustrating thing. As you come back from injury, your knees/ankles aren't in balance. One is stronger than the other which makes it very hard to be balanced when you shoot and is screws around with your accuracy. It often extends into when you are back to full strength. Give it time.

Thank you...everybody cutting him down will be singing his praise soon. He is the best player we have. When he struggles scoring, he's still getting 10 rbs a game and influencing the game with his length.

When you say don't be difficult, I'll assume you are telling me that because you said so, it's true. Where has he said that he doesn't work hard or doesn't take the game seriously? THAT is what you have been saying. Just for fun let's see one or two of those quotes.

Thanks.

I was responding to you saying that I am saying he has all this talent...Your logic was DJ is the 52nd player and we shouldn't expect anymore

I said Penny sees he is the best player on the team and expects more as well.

Penny has also alluded to DJ disappearing last year in games and stopping shooting when he didn't start well. Penny has also said he has to stay on DJ to get him to keep playing when he starts poorly.

The whole he doesn't take it seriously is my opinion and I have said as much. I saw it last year...I saw it during Memphis Madness and I saw it during the first two games. This last game he seemed to be more locked in...

His mannerisms and happy go luckiness at times towards the game reminds me of 'Spoon...

I think DJ is going to play better and better as the season progresses. With Nolley and Boogie there is enough there to figure things out.

Early season struggles have usually made our teams better and tougher later in the year.

I also think we are going to be much better defensively than last year with the extra experience and additional shot blocking presence with Cisse. Not to mention when DeAndre Williams addition.

Sure he got schooled by Bassey but that guy is a stud lottery pick and a 3 year starter. Bassey is just bad to the bone, he is one of the 5 best big men in the nation. Cisse just turned 18 and was making his college debut. It was a great learning experience for him.

RE: Stansbury Schooled Penny
Most predictable thread of the year candidate.
From the OP - a "good" Tiger fan, to be sure!
To the early Penny skeptics who want to remind us they went in on him early, in case it doesn't work.
To the arguments.
So I'll join the fun...

The loss to WKU doesn't concern me. They are an experienced team with a seasoned HC. Their stud guy went against our freshmen playing in his 2nd collegiate game, and against Malcolm who can get lost for long periods, and against Lance who is a frustrating player. And he got ALL the calls. And we still could have won had DJ, LQ, or Boogie his some shots that they certainly will as the year progresses.

The way we lost to VCU DOES concern me. We were flat and missed waaaaaayyyy too many shots against an inferior team. They beat us at our own game.

Penny will need to get the team back, after the way that tourney ended.

We've had winning players like this before - CDR, Shaq, even Joey. Might not be to your liking, but it can still work well.
