That poll is such garbage

Really goes to show how important OOC games and sample sizes are to the computer systems. Usually CM is pretty damn close to the AP poll by the end of the year, this year it’s bizarrely off.

After they win the R+L Carriers Bowl I hope Coastal makes the same national champ claim UCF did.

I’ll take that bait... This is no where near the same...

UCF was the only undefeated team that season. Auburn had already beat Alabama and Georgia. Alabama is the CFP champ but didn’t qualify for their own conference championship.

In order for that same scenario to happen. Coastal would need to remain undefeated. The other 8 or so undefeated teams would need to lose a game. Florida beats Alabama in the SEC championship. Texas A&M needs to be selected for CFP over Alabama. Texas A&M wins the CFP title. Alabama goes to the R+L Carrier bowl and loses to Coastal. Then Coastal needs to be #1 in the Colley Matrix.

Well, looking at the AP and CM national champions of the past 10 years:

Year ............ AP ............... CM

2010.......... Auburn ........... Auburn
2011 ......... Alabama ......... OK State*
2012 ......... Alabama ......... Notre Dame*
2013 ......... FSU ................ FSU
2014 ......... OSU ............... OSU
2015 ......... Alabama ......... Alabama
2016 ......... Clemson ......... Alabama*
2017 ......... Alabama ......... UCF*
2018 ......... Clemson ......... Clemson
2019 ......... LSU ................ LSU

That's four differences in ten years, which to me seems like a lot. Especially when *none* of the other "NCAA major selectors" chose the CM team as champion. All of the other major selectors, whether human poll (coaches) or computers, agreed with the AP in those four years where the AP and CM disagree. So that makes CM a real outlier.
