Hopefully this will provide some more clarity in the ny6, BYU beating Coastal Carolina only helps Marshall, it doesn't hurt us. If Coastal Carolina beats BYU then they deserve to be in the conversation.

Also, amazed that CLT doesn't quit, and that people here still take the bait every time. Lol.

I think Marshall is out of NY6 barring an AAC surprise. A 1, maybe even 2 loss AAC team gets in over undefeated Marshall with their schedule.

If CCU beats BYU, they may even vault Cincy in the NY6 discussion with their resume. Maybe not though.

You have to understand though, in the scenario I laid out, you're talking semantics and perception of the committee.

An undefeated Marshall would be around 15. Tulsa would first be out then back in with two Cincinnati wins. They would probably still be just behind Marshall. And a one loss Sunbelt champion would not vault Marshall.

You're forgetting the larger narrative of the 50th anniversary of the Marshall plane crash. That, tied with the scenario I laid out, and an undefeated G5 Champion would be enough to vault Marshall to the top of that heap.

Explain to me how an undefeated Marshall would have a better résumé than Louisiana, in the event CC beats BYU then loses to a hypothetical 1 loss Louisiana in the CCG.

maybe, I do think the 50th anniversary narrative does have some play. IF CCU beats BYU and UL beats App and CCU in SBC title game I still think UL gets in over Marshall, and deservedly so.

My scenario had:
Undefeated Marshall
One loss Louisiana (with a win against two loss Coastal Carolina)
Two loss Tulsa (beating Cincinnati twice, losing to Navy)

I guess the only sour grapes I have is, why couldn't Marshall have pulled in BYU to play in Huntington and bring in college game day?

That's really how all of this transpired. They petitioned ESPN to come in with Liberty in town, and maintain that open communication with BYU, I guess that's the only sour grapes I have. Why BYU wouldn't work with us to come to Huntington...

I get it Myrtle Beach, but it's crap weather everywhere, and with covid you're not going out and doing anything regardless.

Sigh.... We will never get the full story.

Not a chance. If you haven't been paying attention, Liberty was rolling, and lost to a P5, after beating two from the same conference, dropped right out of the top 25 afterwards. There is no chance a 1 loss UL jumps an undefeated squad, reqardless of who they beat at the beginning of the season. The only G5 champ that has a chance still at the NY6 over a undefeated squad is the AAC, and 2 losses won't fly. One loss, definitely. 2, nope. UL would have to have Marshall, CCU, Cincy lose twice, and hope Tulsa wouldn't jump them, which they would if they beat Cincy.

What makes you believe BYU extended Marshall a credible offer? There is two reason's they would play CCU over us. #1 is ESPN already set up, not for BYU, but Liberty, and BYU can possibly jump in on that #2 is recruiting grounds, we have very little, CCU has a lot. Marshall can't just simply accept a 2 for 1 or 1 and done, especially with BYU, heck we only consider that with the schools that pay a hefty fee for it and for a reason. The finances don't work for Marshall to even consider going to Provo with no return game, they aren't an SEC squad that can pay for that kinda setup and Marshall would need to be reimbursed well to make up any losses just to break even. Maybe they (BYU) can absorb that kinda loss, but Marshall definitely can not. Same goes for the UNC ordeal, if UNC wanted to play, with no payout worth speaking of and no return game, then no is the only answer Marshall can come back with. Limited resources prevent more than fans seem to understand.

a 1 loss UL has victories over current top 10 ISU, top 25 in CCU and matches Marshalls best win against App State. Marshalls resume doesn't even come close at undefeated given they've only played a handful of games and no P5.

this is a moot point because App is going to take care of business, but 1 loss UL deserves the NY6 over undefeated Marshall and you could argue over 1 loss AAC, depending on how ISU does.

If you were ranked at 20, I might agree with you. For the record, App isn't ranked, and you have never beaten them. You beating CCU if they beat BYU (doubtful), would bring you up to maybe 17 or 16. You don't seem to understand how rankings work. For you to move past Marshall, as an unbeatedn squad, you would also have to pass everyone in between you and Marshall. It's not happening. Don't believe me, see us in 2014.....see liberty this year.

No, I don’t know how rankings work. North Carolina loses at home to ND, for their 3rd loss, and moves up? Stuff is very fluid and subjective to say the least.

I realize App isn’t ranked but that is Marshall’s best win, maybe FAU too? You can’t tell me with a straight face that the scenario I provided that Marshall has a better résumé. If Iowa St. wins the BIG12 and everything else I’ve mentioned unfolds Louisiana will pass up Marshall. In my humble opinion.

1) Marshall wins out

2) BYU beats Coastal Carolina

3) Louisiana beats Coastal Carolina in the Belt Championship

4) Navy beats Tulsa

5) Tulsa beats Cincinnati twice ( in season and in AAC championship)

Thus you have:
Undefeated Marshall
One loss Sunbelt champion
Two loss AAC champion

I see your rationale and possible speculation but what happens if BYU instead takes that spot? If BYU wins out (against CCU and San Diego State) then I'm thinking they are definitely a top (5 through 10ish) team who will obviously be in the NY6. What is to stop the Playoff Ranking Committee and Bowl Decision-makers in this COVID-19 season from shutting out the rest of the G-5's if Cincinnati loses? I see a tough path for G-5's outside of Cincinnati joining BYU in the NY6. I hope it's not true because an undefeated Marshall would warrant consideration.

Is resume only schedule? Or does it include things like...

#1 Scoring Defense
#1 Rushing Defense
#2 Total Defense
Top 25 in Scoring per Play, Raw QBR, TO Margins, Takeaways, Giveaways, TOP, Rushing Offense, 3rd Down Conversions...
Top 3 rated O-line in FBS
Comparable metrics as BYU against a similar SoS

In terms of statsheets and metrics, Marshall's an absolute beast this year.

BYU making the ny6 does not stop the G5 champion from making it.

Schedule wins/loses only.

But that's clearly not the only factor the committee uses.

For reference, see Iowa State, Ohio State, UNC

Just go undefeated. Thats all you can do. Let the chips fall where they may. You cant play teams that wont play you. We'd all like out of this conference, but theres nowhere else to go. It is was it is. All you can do is win. If Marshall runs the table, I'll call them the co-national champions.
