I don't see how BYU playing Marshall would have done anything but put BYU NY6 shot at risk. BYU IS NEVER going to make the playoffs for that matter, neither is Cincy.

Thanks, YNot says: " He Believes", I tend to think this is a personal guess rather than a fact. Like I mentioned reading a few BYU boards I visited, I read about the Washington
fiasco, but nothing about MU. I would be hard-pressed to think Hamrick would turn down any game at this point. Our vision should be to avoid the MB Bowl at all costs.

Those are pretty bad rankings.
Does anyone really believe that North Carolina is better than Marshall this year?
For that matter, how is it that Iowa State is ranked 13 when Louisiana beat them on their home field, and Louisiana is nowhere to be found on this ranking?
Too much bias, and there's no way to do an accurate comp, as there isn't as much conference crossover games this year. I knew these rankings would be crap, which is why I didn't watch and I paid it no mind....
My 4 year-old could have mailed this in with better results..

RE: Did Marshall turn down a game with BYU?
My two cents:
If BYU offers - you go. Return games don't matter, pay-out does not matter. They whistle - and you MUST come. That is Marshall's only hope of getting into the Top 10 and getting an NY6 Bowl. There should be no preconditions, no counter offers. You go wherever they want to play you, you strap on and you play.

Well, join the nearly 99% of our fan base. There's very little push back on that opinion, but it doesn't matter, it's not going to happen.
This season is so 2020. We have this phenomenal team, and no way to show it off. I'm telling you, we're going to end up playing in some no name bowl not even a week after our conference Championship.
with our slate, there is no middle ground, period. it's either NY6 or bowl scrapps. No 8-4 P5 matchups.
I long for the days when we join this conference and we had the Liberty bowl, there is no premiere Bowl matchup in our conference like that.
Just a lot of G5 amongst G5. It's going to stay that way until people stop watching P5 games. I have boycotted them for years, I stick with strictly conference usa, and the occasional good G5 team.

It's the P5 Bias, and what I've been saying all along, the good ole boys of P5 won't let any outsiders join the party EVER.

Iowa at #24 with a 3-2 record is laughable. Didn’t North Carolina lose to 2-6 (other win Jacksonville St.) FSU? I guess I need to eat some crow cause we are all the tallest midget in the room. Unbelievable.

You’re right...I’m just frustrated. The G5 is actually very competitive this year and we have nothing to show for it.

Instead a really good team gets a seven game schedule and plays zero good teams to see if they were really anything.

Sources?
I cannot see why anyone would turn that down. 2-1 home stand.
You haven't even been lurking if you take Ghost seriously. He is 100% messing with you.

We did schedule and beat App while they were ranked and would kill any other team in this league. Let's not act like we put zero effort in. We lost 4 OOC games. We replaced 3 as best we could at the time. Appy has only lost to two #15 currently ranked teams. I would call them a good team. By USM standards they are a great team. We already know we're really something. We don't need be concerned with fans so out of touch with winning for a decade telling us differently.

My replies in this thread have been to Marshall fans who are taking this rumor serious and defending it. I doubt it's true, but if so it's not defensible.

IF, and that's a big if, we turned down BYU for a one off I agree. Big mistake.
However, there is no tangible evidence pointing to this. additionally, there's nothing Marshall could have done about the scheduling, like I said we've had eight of our original 12 games either postponed or canceled. It's amazing we've been able to even play seven games.
I have zero ideal if its true or not I was just responding to the OP....
Beating BYU could give Marshall the upper hand or at least make it interesting if the AAC champ has one loss.
I personally think the Marshall defense would give BYU's offense trouble. Well unless Wilson was just on that day and dropping passes into WR hands. The Marshall offense would come down to if you are able to move the chains running the ball. I think Doc would tighten up the passing on the FR qb.
Hell Western was able to move the ball on three drives just couldnt finish because of bad play calling and one of the worse (personally I think the worse) QBs in FBS.
If and like I said I dont have a clue if it happened but if so turning it down was a mistake...its the one game that gets the press and voters eyes.
All the conference games canceled are meaningless in moving up. The only thing they would have done is to keep the name Marshall fresh. Out of sight out of mind works against all of us

Why do you disagree. Stand now it will take two Cincy losses to possibly get to a Ny6 bowl. We beat BYU, it's only one.
Forget about CC. They have Liberty (No Slouch) and a pissed off ULL in the championship game; who feels CC stole their thunder. They will be looking for payback.

I agree 100% with this! If I’m Marshall this game is/was a must no matter the circumstances.

All we know for sure is Charlotte wasn't willing to come in 2020.
Pretty sure we didn't have a choice considering state and universtiy system protocols. Anyway, we've traveled to Clemson before, not sure why anyone would think Charlotte wouldn't want to travel to Huntington.
