The "Monarch State Of Mind"
I believe that UAB had a football game scheduled at Old Dominion this season. But because of the decision to sit this year out because of the pandemic, it got taken off the table. I was looking forward to that road trip. It would have been the 3rd Conference USA campus I would have visited for a sporting event. And sincerely, I don't blame ODU one bit for the decision. In fact, I applaud it and hope everyone has managed to stay safe and healthy... From my vantage point, Covid has hit Conference USA harder than any other conference. I was just wondering how the team and the fans have coped emotionally overall with not having football this year? And hope that the coast is clear for everyone to enjoy college football again in 2021 completely. Having a good thought your way, Monarchs.

Thanks for dropping by. Ehh I can't speak for everyone else but I think we've all come to terms and moved on from football 2020 with high hopes for new coach and team to take us back to our winning ways. One thing for certain is we're all eagerly waiting for basketball and hoping we play, even if abbreviated and in weirdly empty venues.

It sucked, still sucks, and am hoping there is no long term harm done to the program as a result. I am looking forward to the new coach, and our recruiting has improved. For now, bring on basketball.

I've been to the UAB campus. You didn't miss anything. It's more urban than ODU.

Bama Sandwich at Moe's Original right around UAB's campus is the best sandwich in Alabama.

I appreciate that ODU made a decision based on the information available and stuck to it. Given the scattershot nature of the college football schedule this season, I don't think we're missing that much compared to a team that may only play seven or eight games before no or very small crowds with short-notice postponements and cancellations peppering the calendar. If everyone was playing full schedules with no caps on attendance, I might feel a little differently (presuming that the reason everyone else is acting like normal is because the disease went away or we had a cure/vaccine, and not just COVID fatigue). As it is, we're having a good recruiting run, everyone's healthy and we still have a nice stadium waiting for fans to fill it again. Congratulations to the programs that found success in this strange season, your Marshalls and Coastals and, yes, Libertys. We'll be fine.

RE: The "Monarch State Of Mind"
Okay. Thank you all. Covid Fatigue is very real. I had chosen to sit the season out as a fan but, I gave in and attended one home game, I've not left the state since December last year to attend the New Orleans Bowl. And because this is UAB's final season at Legion Field, I will brave the final home game this Friday against Southern Miss. We'll have a nice, modern new stadium downtown to accommodate y'all next time you visit Birmingham, congratulations on your new stadium there, love the ambition your fan base has. Personally, as much as I love football, I'd have been alright if no one played this year with a clear and present danger among us. Conference USA was getting hammered by this virus and all the cancellations...Took brains and guts for ODU to make the decision it did. And to stand by it. I can imagine how agonizing it's been overall and I hope Monarch Nation is rewarded handsomely for sticking to its guns next season...Until they play U A B, of course. I appreciate the feedback, it's been compelling me to reach out and inquire. Still looking forward to the road trip there someday, I never been to Virginia. Now I'm really looking forward to it. For more reasons than one. Take care, Monarch fans.
