Troy receives $9.45M for new research building
Pretty big deal for Troy. Our new research facility has been housed in the science building on campus, but the research program is significantly outgrowing it's space.

Quote:TROY, Ala. (WSFA) - Troy University is on the receiving end of a large supplemental bond money from Gov. Kay Ivey.

More than $9 million will go towards the development of the Center for Materials and Manufacturing Sciences building. The old McCartha Hall on campus will be torn down for the new new building to be built.

“Within the next couple of months, we’ll actually start to see McCartha come down and we’ll look at the building, the construction of the new Center for Materials and Manufacturing Sciences to go up. And none too soon because the kind of funding that we’re getting, and the projects that we’re getting, we’re just straining right now. We need that capacity,” said Walter Givhan, senior vice chancellor for Advancement and Economics.

The vice chancellor adds that the new development will increase the university’s manufacturing competitiveness in the automobile and the aero-space industries.

Nice get. The state is currently sitting on nearly a $billion$ dollars worth of CARES act money that needs to be spent before the end of December or they have to give it back to the feds. Hopefully there are more of these types of grants headed to schools in this state.

TROY needs needs to create a College of Engineering. Bring more $$$ in tuition, alumni salary possibility, which could increase alumni donations, Improve school reputation and rankings, increase school pride.

My guess is that's what you're going to see happen.

Adding a full-fledged engineering school played a huge role in boosting Georgia Southern’s academics to R2 status. Hopefully this leads to more opportunities for Troy to expand its research profile and start pumping out those Ph.D.’s

The bigger shame is troy, JSU, Tuna all get less than a third of what the few chosen schools in Alabama got. Not sure what TUNA got but JSU only got 15 million.

RE: Troy receives $9.45M for new research building
A few days ago, the UT System Board of Regents approved a new $76 million academic building for UTA...and it's going to be a beauty, designed by Smith Group, next to the recently completed $125 million SEIR building.

New building approved

UTA received approval from the UT System Board of Regents for its design plans and funding of a new building that will house both the School of Social Work and the College of Nursing and Health Innovation’s SMART Hospital, the Fort Worth Business Press reported. The 150,000-square-foot facility is expected to cost $76 million, with construction beginning in 2021.

I hope so. That could be a game changer on many levels. I’ve knew classmates who transferred out of TROY to Capstone & Auburn because of they were looking for more science research based majors/curriculum
