COVID-caused athletic budget shortfalls
BYU's AD announced this week via social media that in spite of their budget cutting efforts and with additional expense for covid testing, the athletic department expects to see a $20 million shortfall this year. They recognized some had made donations or paid for season tickets even though they couldn't be used to help with the expense--but sent out a request for BYU fans to make whatever donations to the athletic department they could to help out.

I know some other conferences announced huge short falls too and had to reduce salaries, have layoffs, or even cut sports. Sad state of affairs--but makes me appreciate being able to have a season at all. Crossing my fingers things stay manageable for basketball.

I think Tennessee is expected to have a $40 million shortfall. Crazy the amount of money some schools are losing.

Alternatively, crazy the amount of money some schools were spending?

Possibly. But I guess as long as revenues > expenses, that’s all that matters. But that doesn’t happen at many places.

Without COVID-19, the number of schools which annually run in the black you can count on your two hands.

This is going to sound odd, but teams with either good contracts on the books or small/paid for arenas that aren't an albatross on the books are in a position to gain ground.
