45-40 Rice. Again, the starting lineup continues to be the unit that moves the ball the best, which is somewhat surprising. Fiedler playing well, just needs to not pick up any more cheap fouls.

50-40 Rice after an Olivari transition layup and an Abercrombie 3. Good all around effort to start the half.

52-40 with 11:47 left. Lieppert gonna be at the line to try to complete the and one. Abercrombie with some good defense to create the transition opportunity.

RE: MBB v. UIW
Clark playing a bit out of control these last few possessions. A couple travels and a sloppy TO. 60-47 Rice with 7:32 left. Need to string together a few good offensive possessions to close this thing out.

RE: MBB v. UIW
62-47 Rice with 6:12 left. A few too many TOs in the half, but UIW can't make anything. A mixture of solid defense and poor shotmaking.

Pera going with the Clark-Moore-Mullins-Havsa-Fiedler lineup. Defending well but most certainly not the most gifted in the halfcourt.

62-47 with 3:59 left. Defense has been pretty, pretty good so far. Definitely some questions to be asked on offense when we're not running in transition, but this could have gone a lot worse.

Better than expected 2ndH lifts the Owls. In another CUSA game WKU loses a lead midway through 2ndH and falls to West Virginia by 6 but a great tourney for them beating N Iowa and Memphis before today.

RE: MBB v. UIW
68-53 Rice is going to be the final score. Interested to see the stats to see if they match the eye test. Thoughts:

> We lost by 8 and gave up 91 last year in our opener against a non-D1 team, so literally anything is an improvement on that
> I don't know if UIW's scoring was because of our defense or just because they're not supposed to be good (I imagine a mixture of both), but that's pretty easily a better defensive effort than in any game last year
> A few too many TOs on offense
> What our offense is going to look like is still pretty unclear. I thought there were some positives, but there are some lineups that just don't shoot the ball well enough to beat the better teams on our schedule.
> Hopefully Poteat is back for conference play, and hopefully we get to see Hutchins in action sometime soon

Individual thoughts:

> Really liked how aggressive Moore and Mullins were. It's not always pretty, but them being aggressive is good in the long run
> Fiedler was really solid. Played within himself and showed well in the second half not to get into worse foul trouble
> Clark was good and bad. Thrived with a bit of a lesser role on offense, but forced it a bit at times
> Evee got some good looks but missed a few, but is still our best offensive threat
> Havsa, Abercrombie, Lieppert, Olivari all had their moments
> Sheffield played about as you would expect a freshman to in his first collegiate game. You can see the skill, but he's still raw
> And good job by Moffatt stepping up with Abercrombie and Fiedler out. You pretty much don't expect to play when you're a walk-on, but he actually made some decent plays

I wasn’t able to watch/listen live. I hope IWU posts the video stream in their on-demand section.

Happy with a win. Even with the 2 bigs out, we could easily go 6-1 or maybe 5-2 in the non-conference (UH and then Sam Houston would be the two toughest games).

Hopefully there will be a boxscore online soon --- somewhere.

RE: MBB v. UIW
Some of Pera's quotes from after the game (paraphrasing):

> Did some uncharacteristic things on offense that they hadn't been doing in preseason. "That can't be who we are." Acknowledged that they got some looks that they'll normally make
> From the 8:00 mark in the first half to the end of the game, defended very well. Haven't been able to say that in a year or so
> Mullins has been the leader of the team in preseason. He's going to guard the other team's best player, so to get 15 is an added benefit
> He thought Fiedler was solid, albeit with a few too many TOs. Thought he rebounded well also
> They also had no stats, so it wasn't just us

Box is finally online. Pretty good 2nd half (we shot 58 percent and held them to 32 percent - game would have been even more lopsided if we had made our 3-point shots).

Fiedler with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Evee and Olivari combined to go 2-14 in 3-pointers. I'm guessing that their percentages will be much improved as we continue to play games.

I think many people forgot that Mullins outplayed both Murphy and Peterson their Freshman year. Last year he appeared to lose his aggressiveness and confidence. He had a heck of an all-around game yesterday.

At the end of that season, he really looked like he was going to be a player. Hopefully that turns this year (and he stays)
