Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime - No Longer Applies
Well, FSU decided that another butt whoopin was not in their best interest so they have used COVID protocols to duck out of playing a game that they knew they were going to lose. Guess they truly have finally given up on the last vestige of their once proud program .... anyone, anywhere, anytime. Guess FSU now stands for F#$%ing Scared University!

Was Pitt and Miami also scared of GT?

I think that's a bit of a MASSIVE reach.

Can't speak to Pitt or Miami and I certainly understand safety concerns related to COVID BUT ....... lots of smoke from FSU side for many days PRIOR to game about wouldn't it be great if the game got cancelled and lo and behold, it was cancelled the morning of the game. Clemson offered to play tomorrow and even on Monday but not good enough for FSU. So Clemson is out $300K for travel costs which is not chump change considering what COVID has done to everyone's athletic finances.

Don't understand the late call of the game. GT's games against Pitt and Miami where rescheduled very early in the week.

FSU decided at 8:45 this morning they “weren’t comfortable” playing because Clemson had a player who tested positive, was isolated, and sent back to Clemson yesterday per protocol. I’m sure it had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they were going to get skull-drug or anything.

Its possible that the infected player is the only one who is infected. Its also possible that many other Clemson players who came in contact with the infected player could also end up testing positive for the virus. Then they could in fact spread it to FSU players during the game. That would be very sad. I applaud FSU for putting safety and precaution ahead of $$$$.

I don't disagree with putting player safety ahead of the game and certainly $$$. The Clemson player that tested positive had been showing symptoms during the week but had also been tested twice with negative results. We all know that many of the COVID symptoms are the same symptoms you see with colds and flu so I can see where Clemson relied on the tests in lieu of isolating the player - in hindsight, probably not the best decision. And I don't fault FSU for using this as a way to keep their players safe while at the same time probably avoiding an embarrassing loss. If Clemson was in the same position, they may have done the same thing. But to think that avoiding an embarrassing loss was not a factor in this decision is probably unreasonable as well. If (and of course there is no way of knowing for sure) FSU was 7-1 or 6-2 and ranked, I'd be willing to bet that the decision to play or not play would have been different. Just one more abnormal thing to chalk up to the very unusual year that has been 2020.

I appreciate your very reasonable response. I wouldnt give the "avoiding an embarrassing loss" as much weight as you do, but I am certainly willing to admit that that thought certainly ran across a few minds at FSU. You made your point well. But any shame of being mudhole stumped by a program of Clemson's stature would not be long lasting for a program with FSU's history. Clemson pretty much mudhole stomps almost everyone these days.

Reportedly Dabo is absolutely pissed at the way this was handled by FSU. I’d imagine that had the game gone as expected today he would have called off the dogs early in the 3rd to avoid embarrassing Norvell. If FSU doesn’t punk out of the game again later Trevor might be using FSU to build up Heisman numbers late in the 4th.

I'm okay with this. As long as Clemson wins by more than 66.

Quote:Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney expressed his extreme displeasure with the postponement on Sunday’s weekly media teleconference. He asserted that in his mind the game was forfeited, and it would take a lot for the Tigers to take another trip to the panhandle this season.

“In my opinion, they need to come to Clemson or pay for all expenses,” Swinney said. “Other than that, there is no reason for us to play them. We were there, we were ready, and we met the standards. From my perspective that’s in the rear-view mirror.”

Swinney doubled down on the statement later in the call when asked if he plans on taking another trip to Florida State on December 12 to make up the game. The Clemson coach referred further questions on the matter to athletic director Dan Radakovich.

“That’s a question for Dan, I said what I said so you can ask Dan that,” Swinney said. “It’s an awful lot of money. I think we were there, we were ready and we met the standards to play period.”

Expenses for the trip exceeded $300,000 according to Radakovich due to extra busses and an extra plane needed to accommodate social distancing guidelines for players and team personnel implemented by the ACC. Clemson uses nine busses to transport the team on the road compared to six in a normal year.

The conference also outlined a standard for more players to travel in the case of positive tests that came back on Saturdays.

Quote:“I think they cancelled the game and in my opinion they forfeited the game,” he said. “There was no reason to cancel the game per the standards set to play. That’s 300,000 just gone out the window.”

RE: Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime - No Longer Applies
After giving this some more thought, I am thinking that FSU may have been playing this situation as sly as a fox. It's football and anything can happen so there was no guarantee that Clemson was going to stomp FSU or even that FSU was going to lose but a good old fashioned butt whipping was the most probable outcome. Now, I really don't think that the FSU coaches or players were scared and unwilling to play - that's just not how players and coaches are wired. However, I can see some logic to them (FSU) using COVID as an excuse to have the game moved to Dec 12. First, it allows the FSU coaches to get their young players a couple more games of experience before facing Clemson. Secondly, Clemson was laser focused on this FSU game, chomping at the bit after the loss to ND, and coming off a bye week of preparation and rest - now, if the game is played on Dec 12, Clemson will have played a couple of games and not be as rested and potentially have a few key players out due to injuries/COVID but more importantly, their focus is likely to be diverted somewhat by the expected (but not guaranteed) ACC championship game against ND the following week. So, I think FSU very astutely used COVID to put their team in a much improved position if the Clemson/FSU game is rescheduled for Dec 12.

Well, that plan backfired because you can rest assured that after this little stunt FSU not only will have the team’s full attention regardless of where it falls on the schedule it’s also got to deal with a pissed off Dabo. Ask Dirtbag Doeren and Extra Medium Shirt Collins what happens when you get to deal with a pissed off Dabo.

RE: Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime - No Longer Applies
Under this seasons rules, am I correct that if Miami is 9-1 in conference and Clemson is 8-1 due to the FSU game, Miami would advance to meet ND

Nope I'm wrong

However, for any team to be eligible for the ACC Football Championship Game, or to be considered in a tiebreaker, such team must have played within one (1) total conference game of the average number of conference games played by all conference teams (rounding up/down at .5) during the 2020 season. For example, if the average number of conference games played in the 2020 season is 9.25 (value of nine (9) when rounded down), a team would be eligible to participate in the ACC Football Championship Game, or be considered in a tiebreaker, if that team played eight (8) or more conference games. Furthermore, in the event there is an unequal total number of conference games played among teams tied in the loss column, head-to-head results will take precedence over win-percentage.

Running his hasn’t accomplished anything yet mouth on the recruiting trail and trashing Paul Johnson in the press.

The first is some grapevine unverifiable stuff. The second I thought I would have seen that if it happened. And Dabo is the great PJ defender? Huh? I do see Collins talking about having to completely overturn a roster to get what he wants changed, but that's not knocking PJ. It's just reality. Year one he asked a bunch of option linemen to gain 40 pounds and stand up for a change. Ofc they were awful at that.

Dabo plays the media well. Since there was no game, he keeps Clemson in the public eye. He keeps Lawrence's HT hopes alive. Then by insulting FSU Adminstration, he makes next years game must see tv even though FSU may well stink. He plays the media in a different way than Mack. No one else in the league is close to their level and lets face it, promotion is part of the game.
