They finished 3rd in the Southland last year (20-11 and 15-5). This is Abiliene’s 3rd year in D1. They won 27 games and 20 games in their 1st 2 years. KenPom rates them #156 (#185 in offense and #139 in defense) to ETSU’s #167 (#197 in offense and # 154 in defense). They are a 1 point favorite in KP – FWIW, since in this first game of the season KenPom doesn’t yet have the statistical basis which makes their rankings so useful . . .

Thanks for taking the time and effort to put these scouting reports together, so the rest of us don't have to. It's much appreciated.

(And, thank you, ETSUfan1, for your continuing efforts on our behalf.)

Thank you for complimenting someone that you disagree with on so much! I do appreciate that.

As my son, Running_Fool15, can tell you, this is just the way I approach sports. I make my own stats sheet and short notes for every game that I'm going to. Games are a lot more fun if you know the back story going in. It's not much extra work to expand that a bit and post it.

Thanks again.

And then there's Rodshaw.

It just eats him up that some folks appreciate what I do.

He claims not to read it, yet he's clearly gone over it carefully enough to quote from my post and come up with what he considers a slam. Even when the exchange doesn't concern him at all, like OscarWildeCat's comment, he's got to try to get a little dig in.

Oh well, "it's all just cut and paste" anyway.

When was the last time we played MTSU? I can't remember it.

98/99 season. We beat them 80-64 in the Dome.

Dude, I don't GAF about you, I have read them in the past, Stopped when I saw nothing I couldn't figure out for myself in a couple of minutes with google if I wanted to.

So which was the correct quote? The best player was the one name POY year or Big guy who did a good job rebounding last year is a good rebounder?

Damn I bet I can come up with some more "quotes"
They don't play a lot of players (Here are the minutes played) only 7 play a lot.
That isn't something I couldn't have figured out.

They turn the ball over a lot.. followed by how many turnovers they have..

The fact you think my generalized statements poking fun at you prove I read that stuff just shows how generic it is.

I actually don't own a radio so I listen online.
But I keep losing the station, from WXSM site itself, Iheartradio or even Alexa.
It worked briefly but is back out.

RE: Official Game Thread: Abilene Christian
Going the route of the optimist, only down 10.
tons of turnovers, 2-11 from 3, they are 6-13.
10 straight empty possessions.
I will take only being down 10 at the half.
Playing a good team with experience playing together.
hopefully Shay can make the right adjustments
and the staff can calm a few guys down so
they don't try and do too much

would like to come out and jump on them early.
Need to put them back on their heels.
If we come out slow that will give them more confidence
and make the hill steeper.

Game is far from over.

We have no answer for there two white guys. It's going to take some time for this team to gel.

Same complaint I often have- when you are shooting less than 20% from outside and nearly half of the shots that you take are outside shots- you aren't likely to win.

Well this is going exactly the opposite of what I hoped for.
We don't seem to have any answers this game on either side of the ball.

Tomorrow is against a good Austin Peay team, 0-2 is very possible
but not a reason to throw in the towel yet.
But I gotta admit if we lose
to Middle Tennessee I will start worry, they sucked last year, we gotta beat them.

Nice Abilene Christian team and hats off to them.

In addition to shooting woes, Bucs aren't going to win many games with 17 turnovers and 19 fouls, and 12 more minutes to go. Right now a middle of the pack SoCon team. Lots of work to do to climb back to the top, maybe by the end of the season...

I am not giving up yet, haven't seen any reason to be hopeful yet but still lots of time.
I just want to see more fight. Win or lose let's make a run.
They are slowing pulling away while we seem to be spinning our wheels.
Make them sweat a bit.

Typical ETSU under Forbes (Not Shay's fault he had to build this team this way)
He seems to be going after more Freshmen so maybe he plans to build differently.
The team needs to learn to play with each other under fire, they have talent so hopefully, they can gel. Last year showed what a good team who has played with each other can do (and what ACU is doing now)

I always joked that ETSU needed names on the back of the uniforms so the players would know who was who. This year is a prime example of that.

long season, lots of hardships they can improve.

RE: Official Game Thread: Abilene Christian
I have to admit I don't really have any positive takeaways from this game.
I am not surprised to lose, I am disappointed in the margin and the overall play.

All I can do is hope that all the talent on paper starts to manifest on the court.
Lots of time to see what this team and Shay are made of.

This season would have been challenging enough with the coaching change, the player transfers on top of what was lost to graduation. Throw in the pandemic and that changed how Shay could recruit, coach, That meant he pretty much had to do everything differently.

We hit 82% of our free throws- I guess that's the only positive.

Team was embarrassing today. I hope we show great improvement in upcoming games. We sure have lots of room for improvement. We shall see.

Yeah that was BAD! Know we have lots of new faces, but we looked like a recreational team. Sloan, L Brewer, and Smith will help this team, but the 1st 2 will play lots of minutes. Was hoping more from Ty, but it is the 1st game. Monsanto will drive this staff crazy with his erratic play, he's very streaky. Amaefule is going to be a nice player for us. He is raw, but I see lots of upside with him.

Yes I think we are all in the same boat. Very disappointed with the level of play but still know the talent is there. Just got to get it all together. Go Bucs!

McClung and the Red Raiders give Abilene Christian their first loss:

ACU plays them tough

ACU was actually up 1 midway thru the second half.
