Considering everything that is a fair assessment.

Increased athleticism and overall skill will make the difference.

Looking to see how a handful of returnees improved and how the influx of athleticism and skill play out.

I suspect a strong representation that will surprise well above the pre-season pick. Like most, health can loom large.

I'm curious what Coach Bates can do!

Also, Weird: We were the last West team to win the MAC, & only Central once & Toledo once have made it to the championship game from the division since then.

No team from the West won a MAC Championship during Coach Hawkins time as head coach other than the 2 that the Broncos won.

I agree with the idea that this team is going to surprise some teams and people. I am excited to see what Coach Bates brings and I think we, as fans, will be pleasantly surprised. Go Broncos!!

Hawk started in 2003-2004. Good start for Hawk.

Hawk started in 2003-2004. Good start for Hawk.

I believe Kaman left CMU a year or two before Hawkins took over as head coach.

Central Michigan won the MAC Championship in 2003, Chris Kaman's junior year. The Chippewas won their first round NCAA Tourney game against Creighton and Kyle Korver, then lost to Duke in the second round.

CMU received an invite to the Maui Invitational for the following season, which would've been Kaman's senior year, but he declared for the NBA Draft and was a lottery pick.
