Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I, however, am perfectly fine with having another prep week for what will likely be the most important game in program history, especially when the opponent will be fighting off chop blocks.

Bolded, so true.
This game move will re-open the door for speculation about a tilt with BYU or a Pac 12 team on December 5th. I say NO. Take the bye week to prepare for a season ending showdown in Tulsa where a victory secures Nippert for the CCG a week later.
Most of what small opportunity exists for the CFP is entirely out of UC's control. What is in UC's control is an outright AAC title and NY6 bowl. Both will be high water marks since '09. A NY6 victory would secure the greatest season in program history.
Would we sacrifice all that for a hastily scheduled game that could cost UC the loss of a perfect season? Key players prior to the CCG? Highest G5 ranking? The risk exceeds the reward.

FWIW I'm very pro-BYU in this debate. Top 10 wins dont grow on trees and playoff seasons don't happen often. If there's a chance of achieving both, albeit a small one, you gotta take it. It's not enough for me to give up at the feet of the committee.

Let's see where the committee has both teams this week. We'll have an idea if it is worth it then.

Obviously if we're down at 8 or 9 it's a moot point. But this scenario exists in case A&M or someone like Wisconsin or Oregon are keeping us out and a top 10 win could legitimately put us on top. Even if it didn't, you have a prime time top 10 matchup scheduled that will generate a TON of national publicity and further the playoff debate. That's worth it no matter what IMO.

I agree on the extra week. Not only game prep but there may be a few guys nicked up or Lord forbid COVID quarantine. We will also be coming off three straight road games so the extra time to recover from travel is good too.

Thinking this out, while it certainly would be risky to schedule BYU, we might now be in a situation where we can’t “Not” schedule the game. If we decide not to the committee will say that we had a chance to schedule the game but chickened out. Playing the game would build credibility down the line as a program not afraid to play anyone.
I think the TV ratings for this game would be huge. ESPN would be talking this game up all week. It would be good for recruiting and perhaps some corporate sponsorship $$.

I'm out, on that. I honestly don't believe there is a real chance to get in the playoff though. UC would have to beat on of the Playoff teams to get in, in my opinion.

I'm glad we get the extra rest. Playing 3rd road game in a row and on Friday night to boot was going to be taxing. This will give us more rest and time to heal if needed. If we get BYU during that week, that is fine. I don't know that it will matter in the grand scheme of it all. Hopefully we take care of UCF and then let's see where we are at in the playoff rankings.

I more worried about winning at UCF. Then figuring out a way to beat Temple and Tulsa on the road. I don’t think has done very well on the road in recent years at those places.
I am glad they moved the game, UC needs less games over the next few weeks not more games because the Cats are realistically only playing for a NY6 spot.

Yep.
We can play our way out of the playoffs, but we can't play our way in by beating anyone who's not a top-10 P5 team. The only way we make the playoffs is if other teams lose.
Now if an undefeated Oregon or USC wants to play us on 12/5, that's another issue. Winning that game might get us ahead of a 1-loss SEC or ACC team.
It also might get us a home game in the future against a premier program. That's a benefit the A.D. can't afford to overlook.

And unless we're thumped (which having seen both of those teams play i HIGHLY doubt would happen), even if we lose that game we probably wouldn't play our way out of the NY6 should we end up undefeated outside of it...but I bet if we beat an Oregon by 2 scores you'd see us jump Florida and TAMU again.

An impressive win tomorrow followed by us running the table to a 11-0 record I believe would have us in the mix. I expect Florida to get their second loss against Alabama in the SEC championship and I think we will jump a one loss TAMU who won't make their championship game(they might also lose to Auburn)
No way would I like us to go play another road game out west. A made for tv college game day scenario at home against BYU might be interesting.

Aresco already nixed that he said don't schedule any OOC stuff. Flexibility is still needed for conference games.

UC should have told Aresco to yuck off. Better to have 2 weeks rest before a Championship game. Let yucking Navy move the Army game. This conference blows!

It would be huge if we could schedule BYU. We would be an undeniable playoff team UC we were 12-0 with a BYU win.

How about UC wins today. Cats are an underdog based on ESPN’s FPI. Cats have 3 difficult road trips starting with today. Just get to the AAC title game and win that should be the goal. Cats control that not anything else related to the post season.
