Yep
A real possibility of some normalcy in the fall. Which would make a year and a half of compromise to lower the death rate and help hospitals
We were able to get through three weeks of compromise before it became too burdensome. And as expected, cases and deaths are skyrocketing now. Should these vaccines be effective, and are taken fairly widespread it will sow the spread etc. Meanwhile the cavalier nature by so many is a major reason for how bad it is right now. Not sure how that is even arguable.
Even in a health crisis we want a semblance of normal so sports is played. And suburban high schools play and their sick come into Memphis, where the kids don’t play. And baseball played games with extra precautions. And basketball. And so on.
It all sucks but it will end. Whether it ends after a prolonged period of 2-3,000 deaths a day, if not more, or after a period of getting the death numbers down until next summer is pretty much up to us.
It doesn’t matter, I get that, fighting is more fun than recognizing a once a century problem. Our neighbor died two weeks ago from Covid. Another neighbor died in May. Along with 260,000 others.
Maybe we can compromise a little longer.
Some people like to blame "us" - Americans, Memphians, etc.:
"why we haven't beaten this thing yet"...Because there is no vaccine and no way to stop the virus.
"We were able to get through three weeks of compromise before it became too burdensome"...The American shutdown was comparable to the rest of the free world. The Memphis shutdown was much longer.
"the cavalier nature by so many is a major reason for how bad it is right now"...link? We are wearing masks, keeping our distance, and changing our habits.
"suburban high schools play and their sick come into Memphis, where the kids don’t play"...This is complete nonsense and really show the brainwash that has happened to some. Suburb spread is much lower than Memphis city. There has been zero outbreaks linked to HS sports. In fact, the CDC came out and said the safest place for kids are in school. Much lower spread there than in their community and even homes.
"We" have nothing to do with it. Americans wear masks at a rate that is about the global average. Americans are socially distancing. We have changed so much of our society. Businesses are limiting capacities and changing procedures.
This is a global problem. The spread in Europe is taking off just like it is in America right now. Colder weather. This thing won't be "beaten" until the vaccine is widely distributed. Until then, we have to live our "new normal" lives. The entire country can't hide from this for another year. That would cause so many other bigger problems. If you want to play the blame game, blame China. They screwed the world. Or blame Cuomo. He killed off the seniors. But don't blame me for wanting to get a burger every once in a while.
